Thompsons WaterSeal

Today, the Christmas in July Sponsor Spotlight shines on Thompson’s WaterSeal. The company was founded in 1929, and has spent the last 72 years building up a reputation as the go-to company for protecting the world’s finest treasures, from death-defying rollercoasters to the ancient Parthenon. In the early 1980s, they started focusing on providing homeowners and regular consumers with high-quality, user-friendly deck care products.

They were generous enough to send me some of their Thompson’s WaterSeal Wood Cleaner concentrate to try out on my own weathered deck. To be honest, I had no idea what I should get when I was offered products to try before the giveaway. My contact was so helpful, I sent her little more than a picture of the wood on my deck and a very vague “I’d like to make it pretty, and I think I need some sort of orang-ish stain,” and she figured out exactly what I needed. Apparently, the wood is in great condition, and it just needs a little sprucing up. I wanted to clean and stain the entire deck and present it in an “Extreme Deck Makeover” style post, but the weather has not cooperated, as I can’t seem to get more than one dry day in a row lately. So as soon as I’m able to do that, I’ll share it with everyone.

Although I’m not much of a cleaning person, I am oddly looking forward to cleaning and staining the deck. Maybe it’s thinking about the result, since I spend a lot of time out there reading during the summer while Jacob plays outside. I really like the fact that the Wood Cleaner Concentrate obliterates mildew and fungus, because I have awful allergies. Plus it’s pH neutral, which means I’m not going to have to add another product on top of it before staining. Anything that makes the whole process easier is just dandy in my book.

About Thompson’s WaterSeal Website

One of the coolest things about Thompson’s website is that they don’t just sell you the products you need to makeover your deck, they also give you step-by-step instructions for using those products. The handy project planner is another fantastic tool. It helps you determine the best products for what you want to accomplish. If you’re completely at a loss for ideas, their “Get Inspired” section allows you to look at what others have done for inspiration, complete with a list of products used in the project.

Thompson’s on Facebook and Twitter too. The Facebook page has tons of great updates, before and after pictures, and other tips to help you transform your deck from “eh” to “woo hoo!”
