I’m just finishing up my fourth week of the Nutrisystem Success for Women Plan, and figured this would be a good time to talk about the shakes. They’re relatively new to the Nutrisystem plan, and they totally rock. Along with my massive monthly supply of food, I also receive four boxes of the protein shakes. Last time, I received two chocolates, a vanilla, and a strawberry. This time, they swapped out one of the chocolates for coffee. Coffee!! It’s like they read my mind (or my blog, since I find a way to mention the magical elixir of life at least once a week)!
My favorite so far is the chocolate, although I haven’t tried the coffee yet. It’s rich and creamy, like a good chocolaty beverage should be. Best of all, it’s really easy to make. Most shakes require milk, which means you have to be near a refrigerator or convenience store to make them (unless you carry around a cooler in your car, which I don’t). The Nutrisystem shakes just require water and ice. Yes, ice still has to be frozen, but if you’re traveling and don’t have access to it, you can just use the water and it doesn’t alter the taste much. It’s not quite as cold, obviously, but still good.
Each shake contains 15 grams of protein, which is important to someone like me who doesn’t really eat much meat, yet also doesn’t eat much of the other stuff that would help me reach my recommended daily intake. The shakes are meant to be used along with the diet plan, and do not replace any of your meals, so you don’t have to worry about giving up actual food while using them. They do help keep you fuller a little longer, which helps remove the temptation to cheat. Each box comes with 7 packets, so they’re really simple to stow in your purse and save for that afternoon slump. I’m planning to take a few with me on my trip this week. I’m having a “cheat day” on Valentine’s Day because the place I’m going has all-you-can-eat dinner, but I plan to drink one of my shakes to help keep me from over-indulging.
