Rizzoli & Isles: Burning Down the House (Spoilers)In the Rizzoli & Isles Season 2 finale, Burning Down the House, we were left with a major that could change the relationship between the title characters forever. Doyle (Maura’s father) arrives on the scene just in time to save his daughter from the would-be killer, but he evades arrest and starts shooting at the cops. Jane shoots back and ends up killing Maura’s father. For this segment of the WB Word of Mouth campaign, WB wants to know how I think Jane and Maura’s relationship will play out in season 3, and how I would have handled the situation.

First of all, I imagine the two will definitely have a strained relationship for at least part of the season. How do you get over something like your best friend killing your father? Even though Maura is highly rational, she still has a strong emotional side and I don’t think you just forgive and forget. The thing is, Doyle didn’t really start shooting at the cops until he was fired upon, if I recall correctly. Yes, he’s a criminal and all, but he was on the scene as a father, saving Jane’s best friend’s life. I think he should have gotten a pass on that one. You can’t just shoot your best friend’s father and expected everything to be sunshine and roses right away.

How would I have handled it? Well, for one thing, I would have just let the guy go for now. If that wasn’t feasible, I would have let someone else take the shot that took him down. Sure, Maura still would have been mad, but with Jane making the fatal shot, there is just no way Maura could ever look at her the same. If neither of those scenarios worked, Jane should have at least just aimed for his leg or something.

I’m really looking forward to the start of season 3 on June 5th (9pm EST on TNT).  Check out this video from last season’s opener to refresh your memory of how great the show is, then preorder the Rizzoli & Isles Season Two on DVD at http://bit.ly/ISlEkF
