The Fresh Beat Band is one of the shows on Nickelodeon that Jacob really enjoys watching, mostly because of all the music. He knows so many of the songs by heart now. I’ll admit, I’ve watched very few episodes with him, so I wasn’t all that familiar with who was who when we watched Fresh Beat Band: The Wizard of Song. The DVD released on August 14, 2012, but Jacob received it shortly before that for review and has watched it at least twice since then, if not more.

Fresh Beat Band: The Wizard of Song DVD features the movie-length episode in which Marina ends up in Oz after she gets swept up into a windstorm. There, she meets Glinda the Good Witch, played by the awesome Sarah Chalke (best known for her role in Scrubs, but also as one of the Becky’s in Roseanne, and the girl who stood Ted up at the altar in How I Met Your Mother). Glinda tells Marina that she needs to find the Wizard of Song to get back home.

Just like the real movie that the band is mimicking, Marina meets a scarecrow, tin-woman (instead of a Tin Man), and cowardly lion, each played by someone she knows. The three head off on a journey to find the Wizard of Song, who can hopefully cure all their woes and send Marina back to the right side of the rainbow.

Other episodes on Fresh Beat Band: The Wizard of Song

Ghost Band: The Fresh Beats run into a ghost band when they get a gig in a western town. They face-off against the ghosts in a musical showdown and discover that the ghosts are misunderstood. So they work together to bring people back to the town.

Chimps in Charge: The Fresh Beats help their friend Harper babysit a pair of chimps who are a lot to handle. Marina gets the idea to build a jungle gym for the chimps in the park and the Fresh Beats find a perfect song to rock their show.

While it’s not one of my favorite shows to watch with Jacob, I do love how the Fresh Beat Band gets kids interested in music and moving along with the songs. Anything that gets kids active is a good thing! You can get the Fresh Beat Band: Wizard of Song on DVD at your favorite retailer or online at Amazon for $11.83.
