3-2-1 Penguins!—Complete Season One on DVDOkay, I’m going to be completely honest here, and I hope that it doesn’t offend anyone. I don’t allow Jacob to watch many Christian shows. In fact, I can’t think of any others that he actually watches. I have nothing against religion in general, but it’s just not our way of life. 3-2-1 Penguins! does involve some major aspects of the Christian religion, but I made an exception because, well, penguins are pretty cool! Plus, it takes place in the Poconos (by the way, Wikipedia person who did the wiki on this show, the Poconos are NOT a region of New York!), my home. Granted, the Poconos in the show are more of a vague concept than an actual representation of the region- but still, it’s kind of neat to see my area show up in a cartoon.

In 3-2-1 Penguins!, twins Michelle and Jason are stuck at their grandmother’s house for the summer in the Poconos. Apparently, they didn’t read any of my articles on stuff to do in the Poconos, because they’re pretty bored! While they’re playing around, they end up knocking over one of grandmother’s most beloved possessions- a rocket ship with four little penguins that their deceased grandfather had given her. The figurine turns into a real rocket ship and the twins blast off into space with the crew.

Throughout their journey, they learn lessons like how to take turns and how to forgive others. While the religious aspect is present, the lessons are the types that everyone can benefit from. Jacob thought it was a cute show, but I think it’s really geared towards a younger crowd. If you prefer shows with a religious aspect, I think you’ll really enjoy 3-2-1 Penguins! because it does combine a fun fantasy element and exciting situations to get the message across.

Bonus features include: “How to Draw Midgel,” “Space Academy:  Speak Like An Alien,” “Midgel’s Cool Blue Space Fuel,” and the “Make Your Own Planet” activity.  3-2-1 Penguins! Complete Season One DVD released on 9/18 and has a suggested retail value of $19.99.
