The Marriage Bargain Book Tour: Guest Post: Character Interview

I’d like to thank Pretty Opinionated for the guest post space on their blog. Today, I’m going to interview Andre de Laurent, younger brother of Julian (the hero of The Marriage Bargain).

SE: Thanks for joining us, Andre. We’re all excited to hear about your life. What’s it like being the younger brother of a man like Julian de Laurent?

AdL: It really depends upon what kind of mood my brother is in.

SE: Do his moods fluctuate that much?

AdL: Only when he’s around Papa.

SE:  I understand your father wants Julian to get married.

AdL: Not just married. He’s got the bride picked out and everything. (Andre visibly shudders).

SE: You are opposed to marriage?

AdL: Oh, no. It’s fine—for other people. I just don’t see the point in trying to build a life with a woman when she’s bound to desert me. I might as well just go out every ten years, find a woman and ask her if she wants a house.

SE: Wants a house?

AdL: Instead of marrying and going through all the heartache that’s bound to follow, I’ll just cut through the red tape and give a stranger a house every few years. It’ll save me heartache and money in the long run.

SE: That’s a pretty cynical outlook, Andre. How’d you get that way so young?

AdL: I’m sure Julian told you about our mother? I couldn’t stand the thought of making a woman that miserable.

SE: Both you and your brother seem to be carrying the weight of your mother’s demise on your shoulders. It wasn’t your fault, you know.

AdL: Oh, I know that. But I’d be a fool if I didn’t learn from her mistake.

SE: Point taken. So what are your plans instead? Are you going to marry your work?

AdL: No, I’m basically Julian’s gopher. That’s not a hard nor a detailed job. I simply do what he wants me to do when he wants me to do it. Not sure why Papa sent me to all those expensive schools. I’ll never utilize the education he bought me.

SE: Maybe you’ll start your own company one day.

AdL: Not likely. I prefer to let my brother handle the wheeling and dealing. I’d much rather do without his responsibility.

SE: Well then, I guess it’s a good thing you weren’t born first.

AdL: (laughs) You said it.

SE: So, do you think there’ll be a wedding soon?

AdL: For Julian? If father has his way. But it’ll have to wait until Julian get’s back.

SE: Where’s he going?

AdL: He’s got some business trip to America coming up. But I suspect that Papa will push him into an engagement soon after he returns.

SE: Better Julian than you, right? So what will you be doing while your brother is away?

AdL: I plan on having a little fun along the Italian Rivera! Are we done here? I’ve got a plane to catch.

SE: Sure. I do want to thank you for dropping by. I hope we can do this again sometime.

AdL: I’d be honored.
