Fracture Pictures on Glass Makes a Unique, Stunning Gift

Photo gifts are always appreciated by just about anyone, but there are so many different places offering variations on the same basic types of gifts. While that’s great- I love mugs, calenders, and what not as much as the next person- sometimes it’s nice to step completely outside the box and give a really unique gift. Fracture definitely fits the bill as “unique.”

Fracture: Pictures on Glass

The concept of Fracture is really neat. They take your photo and print it directly on the glass, so it’s both a picture and a frame at the same time. For this review, I ordered a print from my brother’s wedding to give as a gift for Christmas (I really hope he’s not reading this. He’s a busy lawyer, so I doubt he is, although on the other hand,  I should be offended that he doesn’t read my blog!)

The Fracture picture arrived very well packaged to protect it from breakage. I was concerned about how it was going to come out, because the resolution of the picture I had wasn’t exactly as high as it should have been. It was a black and white photo too, so I wondered how the details would translate to glass.

The picture came out even better than I thought it would! It’s gorgeous, actually. I can’t really take a picture of it, because it just doesn’t translate well and show the detail, hence the stock photos from the Fracture site. This is what a full-color would look like hanging on the wall. It’s thin, so it won’t stick out too far, which means you’re less likely to knock it down and break it!

 The Fracture Story

You all know how I love a good background story for a company, and Fracture definitely has one. The two founders, Abhi Lokesh and Alex Theodore actually conceived of the company while doing non-profit work in a little country in Africa. When they weren’t working, they spent a lot of time pondering the important things in life. Somehow, during all that pondering, they came up with the idea for printing photos directly onto glass. The idea for the company evolved over time, but the basic concept remains the same. Both founders wanted to make personalized decorating as easy as snapping a picture. They also wanted to make it affordable, which I think is great. The largest picture (aside from custom jobs), the 18″ Fracture, is just $40. You can get the smallest size, a 8″ picture, for just $10.
