I received a MicroTouch Switchblade Groomer in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

MicroTouch 2

Trying to come up with a great gift for men but feeling a little stumped? Sal recently tried out the MicroTouch Switchblade Groomer and he was pretty impressed! His facial hair grows pretty fast, so he’s always looking for the best groomers to keep up with it. He saw the MircoTouch Switchblade on TV and it piqued his interest. When I asked if he wanted to review it, he was eager to see if it worked as well as it does in the commercial. I think the fact that it’s called a “switchblade” appeals to him too! Guys do love their tools and gadgets!

What is the MicroTouch Switchblade Groomer?

The MicroTouch Switchblade Groomer is a compact wand-like groomer that is strong enough to cut through thick facial hair but gentle enough to use on the whole body. Honestly, we didn’t test “the whole body” because, well, seriously, do you want to hear about that? Sal tested it on his face for the review because we figured that was the most family-friendly spot to go with!

It took us a minute to figure out how to turn it on, mostly because we’re really not big on reading directions. We’re more the “wing it” types! It’s actually easy to turn on once you know how, just slide the guard and flick the switch.

The MicroTouch offers great precision trimming. It’s really easy to get to those hard-to-reach spots. Sal is very meticulous about his beard! He notices if it’s even slightly off kilter. When I dyed it for the Just for Men post, I missed the tiniest spot and he ended up doing it all over again. You couldn’t even tell! Okay, so I couldn’t tell. Honestly, I don’t pay enough attention to my surroundings. I’m oblivious to minor details in the “real” world sometimes. Anyway, Sal liked how easy it was to get everything “just so” with the MicroTouch.

As far as actual shaving goes, I think it’s better to go with a razor and use the MicroTouch for touch-ups. The blade is kind of small, so it’s not really practical for a whole-face shave. I don’t think it’s meant to be used as a complete shaving system though. It’s a grooming tool, and it does a great job of what it’s intended for.  With four comb attachments, it gives men a variety of grooming options.  Sal’s one complaint was that it doesn’t come with a carrying case or pouch to keep all the pieces together. He said if they added that, it would be fantastic.

If you order from the MicroTouch Switchblade website, you do get a carrying case and a 10-piece grooming set with it, so that should remedy the issue of keeping all the parts together. I think this would be useful for guys who are constantly on the go, or men who really just like to go the extra mile with grooming.
