The Lone Ranger

Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer star in The Lone Ranger, from Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Director Gore Verbinski. It’s a wild ride of high velocity action, explosions and gunfights that brings the famed masked legend to life through brand-new eyes. The Lone Ranger (Hammer), the last of his kind, teams with Tonto (Depp), a dark and mysterious vigilante, to seek vengeance after justice has failed them. It’s a runaway train of epic surprises, as these two unlikely heroes must learn to work together before the ultimate showdown between good and evil explodes.

Johnny Depp has never made a bad movie. Seriously, I challenge you to name one movie he did that didn’t completely rock. The man is simply a genius, that rare actor who has the incredible talent to become any character, no matter how unusual. His performance in The Lone Ranger is no exception to his brilliance. What makes his performance even more incredible is that he’s technically not even the main character! Depp plays Tonto, the Lone Ranger’s sidekick.

The titular character is played by Armie Hammer, who appeared in The Social Network, Mirror Mirror and numerous television shows. I’ll be honest, I didn’t really recognize him. After seeing him in The Lone Ranger, though, I’m sure I will now! He did a fantastic job as the masked hero of the Wild West. As the last of the Rangers, he was also the weakest. When the spirit horse brought him back, he had a lot to prove! Do you think he managed to triumph? Guess you’ll have to watch the movie to find out!

The movie also co-starred one of my all-time favorite actresses: Helena Bonham Carter. She’s every bit as awesome as Depp. I love how diverse she can be. One minute a crazy Shakespearean heroine, the next a strong mom protecting her child. With such a brilliant cast, you know you’re in for a great ride. Here’s the thing though, if you’re expecting it to be like the old TV show, you may be disappointed. Honestly, I never saw the old show in more than just passing. It wasn’t my thing. The Lone Ranger of today is action-packed, witty and full of entertainment. Sal watched it with his parents, and his dad couldn’t quite accept the differences. Sal and his mom, however, really enjoyed it! So it depends on what you’re hoping to get out of it. I recommend it for a fun family night!

Bonus Features of the Lone Ranger on Blu-Ray/DVD

The Lone Ranger bonus features may vary depending on which version and where you get the movie.

Blooper Reel – I love watching bloopers! They’re always my favorite bonus features. It shows that even the very famous make mistakes.

Riding The Rails Of The Lone Ranger: For the production of the movie, director Gore Verbinski had a five mile oval track built along with multiple engines and cars. See the incredible effort that went into crafting such a detailed and important part of The Lone Ranger.

Armies’s Western Road Trip: Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger) takes viewers on a tour of the scenic locations the production shot in as we see and learn more about the amazing places he went to become The Lone Ranger.
