Give mom a handmade gift from the heart with this super easy and inexpensive DIY Lemon Lavender Bath Salts recipe. It's like a little piece of relaxing sunshine!
Remember when you were little and all mom wanted was a lovely DIY handmade gift from your heart? Well, that really hasn’t changed. Mother’s Day gifts from the heart are still the most meaningful of all. I’ve never been particularly good at drawing, painting or, let’s face it, any type of craft. I can, however, make bath salts and other bath recipes like a pro. Here’s the cool thing: so can you!

Bath salts are little more than a combination of epsom salts and your favorite essential oils. Some throw in a few other ingredients (I’m adding dry milk to mine), but even the most expensive salt formula at your favorite posh beauty shop starts basic, inexpensive ingredients. This Mother’s Day Milky Bath Salts recipe uses two ingredients that you can find in your supermarket along with two of the least-expensive essential oils. Read on for how to make it!

Mother’s Day Lemon Lavender Milky Bath Salts Recipe

I think it should without saying that these are the bath salts that you toss in the tub for a relaxing experience, not the weird “bath salts” that people get high on. You CANNOT get high on Epsom salts. It’s time we take back the name, don’t you think? While it SHOULD go without saying, I said it anyway, just in case.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Epsom Salts or Sea Salts (sea salts are better, but Epsom works just fine)
  • 1/2 cup dry powdered milk (this makes the bath water AND your skin so silky smooth)
  • 3 drops lemon essential oil
  • 3 drop lavender essential oil

Directions:

  • Put the Epsom salts and the powdered milk into clean plastic baggie and give it a good shake to combine
  • Add your essential oils.
  • Shake again, really good, to combine all the ingredients.
  • Open the bag and sniff. Do you feel like you need more of one essential oil? Go ahead and add another drop. ONE AT A TIME. I like more lemon than lavender, so I ended up with about 4 drops lemon and three lavender.
  • Once your formula is just right, pour it into a pretty jar.
  • Add a cute tag (sorry, but my graphic skills stink, I was going to design you a pretty little printout to go along with it, but your dog has more artistic talent!) or some pretty ribbon and it’s perfect for gifting!

The result is a cheery yet relaxing bath that’s perfect for mom. It’s like a little bit of sunny relaxation! The best part? You can easily replicate this recipe but swap out the essential oils to make all sorts of other types of bath salts. While you can also get away with just the Epsom salt, I highly recommend adding the powdered milk. It makes such a huge difference in the water and to your skin.
