Now that I’m a mom, I want my son to take the same magical reading adventures with his trusty canine companions by his side. Jacob loves reading, but he told me that he doesn’t love reading in front of his classmates. Like me, he prefers to read quietly to himself. He stumbles over the words. I know how he feels. I’ve always been better at writing than speaking. One great way to boost his self-confidence is to give him an audience that never judges: our dogs. 
Reading to pets is beneficial to kids of all ages, from preschoolers just learning to recognize their first words to teenagers preparing for a huge speech. Even as an adult, I sometimes practice what I want to say by talking to my dogs. Just look at Tasha’s rapt attention! 
She loves sitting next to him when he’s laying on the floor reading. Cooper, on the other hand, can’t lay still when I have a camera out, but he’s always happy to hear his boy’s voice!
