When I was little, whenever someone in my family visited the beach, they’d always bring back salt water taffy for my mom. As a kid, I don’t remember eating much of it, but as an adult, I share her love for the sweet, salty boardwalk treat. I thought it would be fun to capture that memory in a bath salts recipe! How to Make It:

  1. Start by figuring out how much salt you’ll need to fill your jar, then divide it into three bags. OR, do what I did and just throw a cup of salt into each bag. You’ll have leftovers, but that’s fine.
  2. Add about three drops of the pink, purple and blue food coloring to each bag. One color per bag, naturally. Seal bag and shake well. If it’s not the color you want, add one drop at a time until you’re happy. If you don’t want to use McCormick neon food coloring (I’ve never had an issue with it, but I know some people are anti-food-coloring), you can use mica colorantOrange, Lemon & Vanilla "Salt Water Taffy" Bath Salts Recipe. I’ve never used it for bath salts, but it is used in soaps, mineral makeup, etc.
  3. Add your sweet orange oil to one color, vanilla to a second and your lemongrass to a third, sealing and shaking the bag to disperse the scent. I based the quantities above on my preference. Give each bag a sniff, then decide if you need more. It’s easier to add more scent than cut an overwhelming one, but if you do go overboard, just add a bit of unscented Epsom salt to the bag. You may need more food coloring, though.
  4. Layer the colors in your mason jar. Make sure you fill it as close to the top as possible, so the colors don’t shift around when you move the jar, but still leave enough space so that you can reach your scoop down through the layers to get a good mixture of scent during your bath.
