September and October are great months for horror movie fans, with all the scariest flicks racing to cash in on Halloween. If you’re looking for a great flick that will scare your pants off, you can’t go wrong with one of these 10 scary movies coming out between now and Halloween! If you end up sleeping with your lights on for a month, don’t blame me!

Looking for a good scare? Check out these 15 horror movies releasing before Halloween this year!To me, the best horror movies are those that creep you out rather than gross you out. It’s the little moments that make a movie. That scene with the girl coming out of the TV in The Ring, the moment where the ghost grabs the girl’s foot in The Conjuring, a well-placed jump scene that literally makes you jump out of your seat. Those scare me so much more than seeing someone get slashed in half with a chainsaw or chased by slow-moving Zombies. I know that everyone has different tastes in scary movies, though, so I’ll try not to be too biased! Check out 10 horror movies coming out before Halloween!

1- IT

I am NOT seeing this one! The first one gave me nightmares for years and I’m STILL afraid to walk over a sewer grate because Pennywise might get me! Basically, it’s just too scary for me to handle. I have to say, though, if I wasn’t coulrophobic (insanely scared of clowns), this one would be at the top of my must-see list. It looks crazy good! Although, to be honest, the clown from the original TV series was scarier. I think he looked more like a regular clown. This new one looks like they TRIED to make him scary, and part of the creep-factor of clowns is that they’re not supposed  to look like monsters. Check out the trailer if you want to. I’m afraid to watch it! It releases on September 8th.

2- Jigsaw

I never really got into the Saw movie franchise, mostly because I’m just not into torture flicks. Jigsaw is the 8th movie in the franchise and takes place 10 years after the titular “monster” was supposedly killed. When bodies start piling up, all evidence points to John Kramer (aka Jigsaw). Is it a copy cat? Is he back from the dead? Guess you’ll find out if you see the movie! Jigsaw comes out on October 27th.

3- Flatliners

Okay, this one, I’m definitely seeing! I adore Ellen Page and I’m looking forward to seeing Nina Dobrev on the big screen. I loved her in The Vampire Diaries. Kiefer Sutherland, who as you may remember played in the original, will be returning as well!  The premise is the same as the original: five med students decide to see what happens when you die by killing themselves. Just for a few minutes, though! Sometimes, just a few minutes is all it takes for the afterlife to get its claws in you! Find out what happens to them on September 29th.

4- Mother!

While the title leaves something to be desired and the plot description is pretty vague, I’ll see this one just because of the cast. Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Harris star in this psychological horror flick about what happens to your relationship when uninvited guests crash your tranquil lifestyle. The trailer is a little confusing. What’s with the word “protozoa” popping up out of nowhere? Weird. It’s directed by the same guy who did Requiem for a Dream, so you know it’s going to be a total mind-bender. Mother! releases on September 15th.

5- Friend Request

This one looks like another cautionary tale about over-sharing on social media. Laura, the main character, has 800 friends on Facebook. What’s one more, right? She accepts a friend request from a social outcast and BAM, her life is cursed, her friends are brutally murdered, and she’s left trying to solve the mystery of Marina. Friend Request releases on September 22.

6- Zombies

I’m really not a fan of zombie movies, but I know that a lot of you are, so I won’t knock it. Seriously, though, zombies? All you have to do is pick up your pace a little and you can outwalk them! I can think of a dozen easy ways to deal with mindless half-dead monsters! Okay, I said I wasn’t going to knock it, sorry! The plot for Zombies is pretty straight-forward. The world is overrun by the not-so-dead, and a guy and his pals have to load up on ammo and shoot their way to safety as they try not to get infected. Want to place bets on whether one of lead guy Luke’s besties gets bitten and he has to shoot him? Not knocking, just predicting! I can’t find an embeddable trailer for it on YouTube, but IMDB has one. It comes out on September 29th.

7- Leatherface

Leatherface is a prequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies and gives us a peek at what caused the Sawyer family to become so deranged. Since TCM is more or less a slasher film, it’s not really my thing. Although the original was one of the first horror movies I ever watched. This movie warns (or promises, depending on how you look at it) “strong bloody violence.” If you love gore, you’ll want to head to theaters on October 20th to catch Leatherface!

8- Happy Death Day

I’m fascinated by the premise of this movie. Even though it’s being hailed as a slasher version of Groundhog Day, it still sounds pretty interesting. A girl relives the day of her murder over and over until she figures out who killed her. The trailer looks promising, and that mask kind of suggests more of a very dark comedic horror movie than an actual slasher flick. I mean, it’s creepy in a goofy sort of way, don’t you think? This one comes out on October 13th, which of course is a Friday.

While these are the top 8 horror movies coming out on or before Halloween (according to Bing, anyway), there are a plethora of other movies all across the horror genre to watch if these just don’t do it for you. They include:

  • Invoked | September 5th
  • Spook Bridge |Sept.
  • Silent Hill Genesis |Sept. 19th
  • Fears | Sept 19th
  • Twelve Pole | Sept 29th
  • God Particle | October 27th
  • Lead Me to the Dark | Oct 31

Some of these movies may not play in the larger theaters, so check your local listings to find out where you can catch them.
