Muse Brain Sensing Headband
Everyone knows that meditation is an amazing way to relax…unless you’re one of the many people who simply cannot turn off their brains! I would love to reap the benefits of meditation, but my mind constantly wanders when I try to think about nothing. I’ve even tried guided meditation, where you listen to a soothing voice telling you what to do. I eventually tune out the voice and start thinking about bills. Since the voice is on a recording and not inside my head, it has no idea that I’ve lost interest along the way!
What I really need is a meditation tool that knows when I’m wandering off the guided path into the dark, twisty enchanted forest of my own mind and can help me refocus back to relaxing thoughts. That’s kind of what the Muse Brain Sensing Headband does.

Basically, Muse uses EEG technology to monitor your brain activity while you’re meditating. It uses that data to make you more aware (by changing the sounds you’re hearing through the companion app) so you can adjust your meditation session as needed. For example, if you’re listening to beach sounds, you’ll hear a calm ocean when you’re relaxed, and stormy waters when your mind wanders. When you hear the storm, you know to drag yourself out of your twisty mind forest and back to the relaxing beach!
The Muse headband does take some getting used to. If you have a lot of hair like I do, you’ll have to finagle it a bit to get the band to sit just right. You’ll also want to use in-ear buds to listen to the relaxing sounds (versus over-ear buds). You could listen through speakers if you’re in a quiet room, but my house is never quiet.
For moms like me who desperately need to relax yet can never seem to quiet their minds long enough to do it, Muse is definitely a great gift idea. I talked a little about Kusmi Tea in my 40 Fabulous Mother’s Day Gift Ideas Under $20 post, and promised to tell you more. While tea may not sound like the most unique gift idea, Kusmi isn’t just your average boring tea. It’s a premium experience for true tea aficionados!
I tried out a couple of their most popular varieties, including their BB Detox Tea, White Anastasia, and Jasmine Green Teas. The first two came as loose tea in a reusable tin, the Jasmine in muslin tea bags. When you open the tins (and even the box with the muslin bags), you’ll notice right away that these teas don’t skimp on the flavor. They’re very aromatic and intriguing!
Do you remember when we talked about the difference between herbal tea and true tea? If not, let me give you a quick refresher. The three teas that I tried are true teas. They start with actual tea leaf, be it green, or white, then add in herbs, fruits, and flowers for added flavor and benefits. Kusmi does have a line of herbal “teas,” which are actually tisanes, but their main focus is on bringing true teas to life.
The White Anastasia is my favorite so far. Kusmi created a new blend for a recipe that is celebrating its 100th Anniversary! I love the combination of white tea, bergamot, and citrus. It’s very refreshing. While I’ve only tried it hot, I am looking forward to trying ti iced this summer.
BB Detox (pictured above) is great when you need a pick-me-up. It starts with a green tea, then adds in maté, rooibos, guarana, and dandelion, finishing off with enough of a grapefruit kick to add flavor (but not so much to turn off those who don’t really care for the fruit). It smells amazing!

Bear with me for a moment, because CBD Skincare by Cannabliss is NOT what you might think it is. You may have noticed that CBD oil is everywhere on the internet now, with people claiming that it helps with everything from depression to pain. I haven’t had a chance to try it out for those issues yet, but I’m actually considering it. Another thing that I really love: all of their products are designed for all skin types. You don’t have to dig through their shop to find just the right product for dry skin versus oily, for sensitive vs not sensitive, and so on. Because they’re using the best and most gentle ingredients possible to start with, one product really does fit all.
