Gramma in a Box Delivers Big Smiles to Kids & Kids at Heart
When I was little, watching my grandmother bake was one of my favorite things in the world. I’d sit at the table coloring or playing “can people” (I had plenty of toys, but opted to play with canned goods and pretend they were people. I was a weird child) while she would mix, stir, and bake up amazing treats. She always let me lick the beaters or the spoon.
I was lucky enough to live close to my grandmother most of my life. While I did move to the other side of the world for a couple of years as an adult, I spent the better part of 32 years within easy driving distance of my grandparents. I know many families don’t have that luxury. Gramma in a Box was born out of one grandmother’s love for her far-off grandkids, and her desire to brighten the days of other children around the country.
When three of her grandchildren moved to Seattle, “Gramma” used to box up all the ingredients for fun treats that they could make together on Skype. She’d include baked cookies plus decorations like icing, sprinkles, and more. Her friends and family loved the idea so much that she decided to turn it into a monthly subscription service!
Gramma in a Box is filled with fun treat ingredients that kids can easily create and decorate on their own. Gramma does all the baking, so you get finished undecorated cookies. This is awesome to me because I really don’t have the time to bake, or the talent to pull off shaped cookies. Drop cookies are the extent of my baking ability.
My Gramma in a Box was a butterfly theme. It came with adorable butterfly-shaped cookies in different sizes, colorful icing, and plenty of sparkly sprinkles. It also came with everything I needed to make other tasty treats, like candy-coated marshmallow pops. Every treat comes with complete directions, including special “Gramma says…” notes. You’ll receive enough ingredients to make between 15-20 finished treats! The only thing in the picture above that didn’t come in the box was the paper plate and plastic knife (and the place mat and kitchen counter, but I figure that goes without saying!).
Check out my finished cookies above. Yes, those are mine, even though they kind of look more like a preschooler did them. Hey, I told you my talents are limited when it comes to baking and decorating! What I lack in artistic ability I make up for in enthusiasm, though. I was proud of my pretty butterflies! They tasted even better than they looked! Don’t you just love those colors? I went a little sprinkle-crazy on my first cookie, but it was totally worth it. I love sprinkles!
All of the ingredients are listed on either the package or the project card, so you know ahead of time what you’ll be working with. At this time, Gramma in a Box doesn’t have any allergen-free subscriptions.

The subscription service offers 5 different plans to fit your budget. Order one box for $20, or get a 3, 6, or 12-month subscription and save up to $20! If you want the June box, you’ll need to order by June 3rd. All taxes and shipping costs are included in the plan, so you don’t have to worry about getting hit with extra fees. That’s one thing that always drove me nuts about the gamer boxes that I would get for my son. They cost $20, but then charged like $8 extra to ship a tiny box!
Also, keep in mind when you order, you will need to open up and use most of the ingredients in your Gramma in a Box within a few days. In my Butterfly box, the icing needed to be used asap, but some of the other ingredients have a longer shelf life (like the marshmallows, pretzels, and even the melting candy wafers).
