Time for another fun Warner Brother’s Word of Mouth campaign! This time, it’s to promote the upcoming release of Fringe: The Complete Third Season on DVD. Fringe is one of my favorite shows (yes, I know, I have a lot of favorite shows, but this one is in my top 5). I love Walter’s bizarre habits (like eating licorice while checking out really gross, dead bodies) and his strange, sometimes strained relationship with Peter. I really love Peter and Olivia’s budding relationship, and hope last season’s cliffhanger doesn’t completely wreck that. Season 3 had a lot of craziness going on, what with the switching from universe to universe for half the season, but it was definitely satisfying. Early in the season, Olivia and her alternate version switch places – with each Olivia trapped in her respective alternate universe. Warner Brothers wants to know, if I lived in a different universe, what kind of different decisions would the alternate me have made?
Well, I think the alternate me definitely would have finished college by now, preferably right after high school. I doubt she would have gotten married for the first time at such a young age (19). She would have worked a lot harder on her writing career while she was still younger rather than let her anxiety, shyness, and fear of rejection stand in the way. There are probably a lot of different decisions I could have made throughout my life that would have resulted in me being in a much more secure place now. But here’s the thing- despite any mistakes I may have made in the past, I wouldn’t go back and change any of them. In Olivia’s alternate universe, a simple decision on Walter’s part altered everything. Fauxlivia lost her sister and never had her niece, and pretty much half the world is covered in amber to keep it all from unraveling. I highly doubt any decision I undo could cause that much damage, after all I’m not a scientific mastermind, but I think anything I changed would result in erasing my son’s existence, and that is unacceptable to me. I’d rather keep all my past mistakes and still have my son than fix all of them and lose him.
