Vitamins have always been important to me because I’m a picky eater, and I don’t really get all the right nutrition I probably should through eating alone. Yes, I know it’s better to get vitamins through their natural source, but the thing is, with me, that’s just not going to happen. I don’t eat red meat (or mammals in general) for personal reasons, and I can’t stand most vegetables. Jake is exactly like me, except his finickiness at least includes a few more vegetables than mine does. There’s a chance he’ll grow out of it, unlike I did, but for now, it was a challenge getting him to eat any real food in the first place (I even had to get a special therapist to work with him because, at nearly two, he refused to eat anything except baby food), and I don’t push the issue. So vitamin supplements are important to both of us.
When I choose vitamins for myself, I just look for ones that have what I think I”m missing. I don’t put a whole lot of thought into it. When I look for vitamin supplements for Jake, however, , I want something that contains a decent amount of the RDV and tastes good enough that he’ll actually take it. That second part is key, because up until a few months ago, he wouldn’t take anything that he even thought had the potential to be medicine. Emergen-C Kidz not only contains most of the vitamins and minerals that Jake’s gummy vitamins contain, it doesn’t have any artificial ingredients in it, and it tastes pretty good (I tried it). I would recommend putting the maximum amount of water versus the 4-oz minimum, otherwise it’s a little “zappy” according to Jake. He likes the Orange flavor the best.
For every box of Emergen-C Kidz sold, the company will donate $0.25 to Vitamin Angels, which helps get vitamins to children who wouldn’t otherwise have access to them. That quarter is enough to cover the cost of annual Vitamin A supplementation for one child. Right now, if you take the Emergen-C Kidz Pledge, they’ll donate another quarter to the cause. Each pledge helps one child for one year. To take the pledge, just “like” Emergen-C on Facebook and click the “Pledge Now” button under “Kidz Pledge.” You’re pledging to commit to a fun and healthy lifestyle, as well as teaching your children the importance of helping others. There is no cost to you, and the benefits for another child out there could be enormous.
I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Emergen-C and received samples to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
