Season 7 of SpongeBob SquarePants had some of Jacob’s favorite episodes in it, including The Great Patty Caper and SpongeBob’s Last Stand (we also have the book versions of both of those, and I’ve read them to Jake at least a dozen times each), so Jacob was pretty excited to receive SpongeBob SquarePants: The Complete 7th Season DVD for review. For the first time since the third season DVD release, it really is the complete season, featuring all 50 episodes. Seasons 4-6 were released in volumes rather than in their entirety.
While the episodes are definitely the highlight of the 4-disc set, the bonus features are pretty awesome. Not only will you and your SpongeBob fan be able to enjoy such episodes as Legends of Bikini Bottom, Back to the Past, The Great Patty Caper, and SpongeBob’s Last Stand, but you’ll also get to see some really cool animated shorts that revolve around those episodes. Learn valuable Jellyfishing Safety Tips and Things To Do When Encountering Legendary Creatures, take a Dance Break, and or travel in a Time Machine. There are 12 animated shorts in all.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Complete 7th Season contains over 9 hours of episodes, so it’s sure to keep your SpongeBob fan busy for a while. Jake has made it through three out of the four discs so far. SpongeBob is one of his all-time favorite shows, and it’s really nice to have an entire season in one convenient case. I think this one has my favorite cover art so far. It’s really quite colorful and oddly soothing! Yes, I’m strange, I think we established that long ago.
Jacob and I have conflicting opinions on who the coolest SpongeBob SquarePants character is (side from the little yellow guy himself). Jacob loves Patrick, but I’m more of a Sandy fan myself. She’s a squirrel who lives in an eco-dome in the bottom of the ocean. Despite the fact that her species absolutely doesn’t belong in the sea, she still makes it work and fits in pretty well because she’s so smart and savvy. See, SpongeBob can impart valuable lessons in the midst of the zaniness.
I know some parents are not fans of the show, and that’s fine. When Jake was about four, we had some issues from him watching it and emulating the characters (and some of their less stellar behavior traits), but now he understands that cartoon characters are totally different than real people, so I have no issues with the show. Personally, I think it’s pretty funny and enjoy watching it with him from time to time (although I’m not sure I could take a marathon of it like Jake can!). If your child is a fan, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Complete 7th Season is a pretty great catch. It comes out on December 6th, and is available on Amazon for $20.99.
