While you can find all of the ingredients in your local grocery store, I linked to a few of my favorites on Amazon. FYI, I did use affiliate links for those, so if you happen to buy anything through them (no pressure!), I’ll earn a small kickback at no extra cost to you.

Ingredients:

  • 1 shot of espresso or 1/2 cup of strong brewed coffee. I recommend Death Wish Espresso!
  • 1 cup of steamed milk
  • 2 tablespoons of gingerbread syrup (store-bought or homemade)
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Ground cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish

Directions:

  1. Brew the Espresso: Start by pulling a shot of espresso using your preferred method. If you don’t have an espresso machine, a robust cup of brewed coffee will work splendidly.
  2. Steam the Milk: In a separate container, steam the milk until it reaches a velvety consistency. If you don’t have a milk steamer, you can heat the milk on the stovetop and whisk vigorously to create froth.
  3. Infuse with Gingerbread Goodness: Stir in the gingerbread syrup, ensuring it blends seamlessly with the espresso. Adjust the quantity based on your sweetness preference; two tablespoons is a great starting point.
  4. Combine Espresso and Milk: Pour the freshly brewed espresso into a festive mug, followed by the steamed gingerbread-infused milk. Gently mix to create a harmonious fusion of flavors.
  5. Top with Whipped Cream: Crown your creation with a generous dollop of whipped cream. This indulgent addition not only adds a luxurious touch but also complements the spices in the gingerbread syrup.
  6. Garnish with Spice: Sprinkle a dash of ground cinnamon or nutmeg over the whipped cream. This not only enhances the visual appeal but also introduces an extra layer of warmth to each sip.

How to Make Homemade Gingerbread Syrup

If you want to go the homemade route, here’s a relatively easy recipe for crafting your own gingerbread syrup:. Personally, I just stick with store-bought.

Ingredients:

1 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup molasses
2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

  • Combine Water and Sugar: In a saucepan, mix the water and granulated sugar. Place the pan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Stir in the molasses and add the grated fresh ginger to the sugar-water mixture.
  • Add the ground cinnamon and ground cloves to the mixture.  Stir well to ensure an even distribution.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  • Let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the syrup to thicken slightly.
  • Once the syrup reaches your desired consistency, remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract, adding a hint of sweetness and depth to the syrup.
  • If you prefer a smoother syrup, you can strain the mixture to remove the bits of grated ginger. Use a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth for this step.
  • Allow the gingerbread syrup to cool completely before transferring it to a glass jar or bottle. Store it in the refrigerator for an extended shelf life.

Now, your homemade gingerbread syrup is ready to add a burst of festive flavor to your favorite beverages. Whether you’re crafting gingerbread lattes, drizzling it over pancakes, or experimenting with creative cocktails, this syrup is a versatile and delicious addition to your culinary repertoire. Enjoy the warmth and spice of the holiday season in every sip!

Tips and Add-In Ideas for your gingerbread latte:

  • Experiment with different milk alternatives such as almond, oat, or coconut for a personalized touch.
  • Elevate the experience by making your own gingerbread syrup with a blend of ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and molasses.
  • For an adult version, consider adding a splash of spiced rum or bourbon for a cozy kick.
  • Pair your gingerbread latte with gingerbread cookies or biscotti for the ultimate holiday treat.

As you savor the rich, spiced aroma and velvety texture of this gingerbread latte, you’ll find yourself transported to a winter wonderland of flavor. Whether you’re curled up by the fireplace or sharing the joy with loved ones, this festive beverage is a delightful way to celebrate the magic of the season. Cheers to crafting and sipping the perfect gingerbread latte!
