seescandyI’ve been hearing a lot about See’s Candy for many years now. Back when I used to post to a message forum frequently, I remember moms talking about how their kids were doing a fundraiser with the candy, and everyone oohed and aahed over it. I had no idea what it was, as it wasn’t exactly abundant here in my area. It’s still not, as there are no stores in Pennsylvania that sell it. Fortunately, you don’t have to live close to a See’s shop because you can order online! Isn’t the internet wonderful?

Sees1I was given the opportunity to review a selection of my choice (up to a certain amount) from the See’s Candy website, and let me tell you, it was really hard to choose! I opted for a box of the chocolate covered chews, a box of mixed coconut chocolates (for my mom and Sal to try, as I’m not a coconut person), and a 4-pack of assorted chocolate bars. Unfortunately, my chocolate chews never arrived, so I can’t tell you about those. I was really sad about that, since those were the ones I was looking forward to the most, but I consoled myself with the assorted chocolate bars instead.

Sees Candy Delivers on my Expectations

I had extremely high expectations for See’s chocolate candy, especially since I heard so much about it over the years. I am pleased to say that, although I didn’t get to try out the chews, the chocolate bars definitely lived up to what I expected from the company. While I expected the Dark Chocolate with Almonds to be my favorite (and it was a super close second), I really loved the Milk Chocolate with Toffee bar. I’m on a bit of a toffee kick lately, and it satisfied my cravings perfectly. The chocolate is so rich and creamy, you can tell it must come from an old family recipe.

I didn’t taste the coconut, except by accident when I thought it might be my chews, but both Sal and my mom enjoyed them. Sal preferred the coconut chocolates with the drier texture rather than the wet coconut texture.

About See’s Candy

The company has been around for nearly a century, so you know they have to be good to have staying power like that. I love how they use the founder’s mom as the face of the company. The original recipes actually came from her, so it’s fitting.  The story of how See’s expanded so quickly, from one store in 1921 to 12 stores by the mid 1920’s, is amazing. They thrived even through the depression, when chocolate was even more a luxury than usual. Although the company is no longer in the family’s hands, it still continues to follow those old family values when it comes to making delicious chocolate.
