If you’re looking for an outstanding AND affordable (like, for real affordable) dog supplement that manages inflammation and pain quickly, you definitely want to check out Native Pet Hip + Joint Inflammatory Care. We started using it with Freya back in early November and it’s made a HUGE difference in her quality of life. Keep reading to learn more!
First, though, here’s what I’m talking about today. FYI, I am using affiliate links, and I did get the first bag for free back in November. However, I’ve bought the last two bags on my own, and I was not asked to write a review.

Native Pet Hip + Joint Inflammatory Care Review
I originally tried these when I was working on a review of Native Pet’s Advanced Care powder over on DogVills. The main focus of that post was the powder since it’s a newer product, but I briefly mentioned these chews since we were testing them at the same time.
As I mentioned above that first bag was sent to me for free as part of that review. Since then I’ve personally purchased two more 120-count bags with my own money—and I already know I’ll keep buying them pretty much forever.
I didn’t go into it expecting anything dramatic. I mostly just wanted something gentle that could help take the edge off inflammation and support Freya’s joints without upsetting her stomach or turning into a daily struggle to get her to take it. A couple of months in, these chews have become a regular part of her routine—and not just because they’re easy to give. They’ve made a noticeable difference in how she feels, especially in the evenings, and that’s what made them worth writing about on their own.

Quick rundown: what makes these chews stand out
Before I get into how they’ve helped Freya specifically, here’s the quick overview:
- Air-dried chew makes them easy to give, no hiding required. They’re also a good middle ground between crunchy and soft.
- Designed specifically to help manage inflammation
- Can be used alone or alongside other joint supplements (like the Advanced Care powder)
- Made with recognizable, purposeful ingredients
- No weird fillers or unnecessary junk
- Easy to dose and adjust as needed
Let’s talk ingredients (and what they actually do)
Every active ingredient here serves a clear purpose.
Green-Lipped Mussel (Shellfish)
This one’s a big deal in the dog joint health world, and for good reason. Green-lipped mussels are naturally rich in omega-3 fatty acids and compounds that help support joint lubrication and reduce inflammation. They’re especially helpful for dogs dealing with stiffness or age-related joint changes.
Polyphenols
Polyphenols are powerful antioxidants that help combat oxidative stress in the body. Translation: they support overall joint comfort by helping calm inflammation at a cellular level, not just masking discomfort.
Turmeric Extract
If you’ve ever taken turmeric yourself, you already know why it’s here. Turmeric is well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties, particularly when it comes to joint pain and swelling. This ingredient plays a major role in why these chews help with your dog’s pain flare-ups.
Collagen (Porcine)
Collagen supports connective tissue, cartilage, and joint structure. As dogs age, natural collagen production slows down, so supplementing can help maintain joint integrity and mobility.
Black Pepper Extract
This one works behind the scenes. Black pepper helps increase the absorption of turmeric, making it more effective. Did you know that? I had no idea until I started researching the ingredients. I guess I should be eating more pepper when I take my own turmeric.
The inactive ingredients are pretty straightforward too—chicken (for flavor), coconut glycerin, and mixed tocopherols as a natural preservative. Nothing unnecessary, nothing concerning. Native Pet never puts any sort of junk fillers into their products.
What I like most (spoiler: it’s a long list)
- Freya actually wants them (this cannot be overstated)
- Noticeable reduction in stiffness and inflammation
- Works well alongside other joint supplements
- Gentle enough for daily use
- No digestive issues, even with a sensitive stomach
- Easy to adjust dosing based on activity level
- Reasonably priced for what you get

The results we’ve seen (and why I’m sold)
First of all, Freya freaking LOVES these. She’s tried a lot of different supplements over the years and as far as flavor goes these are her favorite so far. She can have three a day, so we usually do one in the morning and two at night. Or we’ll do Advanced Care in the morning and these at night. The night is a must though because she will stand there and point at the bag until we give them to her. It’s become part of her routine.
Again, I’ve been using them with her since early November, so roughly two months. I noticed pretty early on that they were already helping her. She’s 9, but still active. However, when she’s too active during the day she gets kind of stiff and limpy at night.
We usually go for a long walk every day up and down several big hills. She’s all “I could walk across the universe without getting tired!” while we’re out, and then turns into a puddle of “I couldn’t possibly be bothered to walk to my water bowl, please bring it over to me” when we get home.

Within a few days of using the Native Pet Inflammatory Care supplements she wasn’t nearly as stiff. Now, she’s barely ever stiff and achy. I won’t say never ever because she’s a senior and does have achier days here and there (don’t we all?), but the bad days are far fewer and farther between.
She also has an issue with one of her “ankles” (do dogs have ankles?). She twisted it a while back and it sometimes re-twists. In the past, the swelling lasted several days, and she was very careful not to put much weight on it. The last time she re-twisted it, the inflammation went down within a day, and I really think the turmeric and other pain-relieving ingredients helped a lot because she wasn’t as miserable.
Any drawbacks? (I had to really think about this)
I honestly can’t think of a single thing I don’t like about these. There are no drawbacks in my opinion. I guess maybe (big MAYBE) if your dog has a super sensitive stomach the turmeric and pepper could be a bit much? Although Freya has a relatively sensitive tummy and she hasn’t had any issues.
The collagen source comes from animals, which in supplements for me would be a big NOPE since I don’t eat mammals. Freya does, though, so it’s not really an issue in a dog supplement.
Even the price is very reasonable. Plus, Native Pet runs sales constantly. Between holiday deals, Subscribe & Save on Amazon, autoship discounts, bundle deals, and even a quick quiz that knocks $5 off your order, there’s almost always a way to save.
Bottom line: If you’ve got a senior dog, an active dog who sometimes overdoes it, or a pup who deals with inflammation-related stiffness, Native Pet Hip + Joint Inflammatory Care is absolutely worth trying.
