Spongebob Surf & Skate Roadtrip For Kinect ReviewIn the real world, I’d fall flat on my face if I tried to ride a skateboard, and I don’t go in the ocean past my knees, so surfing is totally out. In Spongebob Surf & Skate Roadtrip for the Kinect, however, I am a rock star on a skateboard! Okay, maybe rock star is a little bit of an exaggeration, but I didn’t fall down! Well, at least not in real life. When I was playing as Patrick, he may or may not have taken a few nosedives. Jake, on the other hand, was awesome and beat me every time, even though we both started playing it for the first time together.

Spongebob Surf  & Skate Roadtrip is a brand new game for both the XBOX 360 Kinect and the Nintendo DS that takes you on an awesome roadtrip adventure with Spongebob and Patrick. Players can choose which they’d like to be, dress up in their favorite skater or surfer gear, choose a board, and hit the road or waves. As you make your way through the story, you can unlock new boards. If you want to skip the story and get right into the action, the game has a quick play feature as well.

Jake and I started out with the Quick Play mode because I wanted to get right into testing out the game. I was really impressed with how easy it is to get started. Some games have long intros and even longer explanations on how to work the controls. Spongebob Surf & Skate took a few minutes to help us learn how to position our feet, but then we were right into the game. Even a completely uncoordinated person like me was able to pick it up right away! That’s no small feat.

The story mode takes players through 12 different environments, with six for skating and six for surfing. As you progress, you unlock more tracks. I particularly loved the pineapple-smashing one for the skateboard, as it was oddly satisfying to bust up those over-sized fruits, especially on a day when I was feel a bit antsy.  I really wish I could figure out how to upload pictures from the Kinect. On the other hand, I was in my pajamas, so I’m not sure I would want to post them anyway.

Spongebob Surf & Skate Roadtrip  is a fun game for the whole family. It’s easy enough for the younger kids, and exciting enough for the parents. I think it would make a great gift for under the tree this year if you have Spongebob fans.

Note- I received a free copy of this game to facilitate my review. My opinions are my own.
