Dr. Cocoa Take Some of the Challenge Out of Medicating Your Sick Child

Have you heard of Dr. Cocoa yet? It’s the first medicine for kids that actually contains real cocoa and tastes like chocolate. If you have a child that is a challenge to medicate, you know how the right taste can make a huge difference between war and peace.

Jacob is one of the hardest kids to medicate. I’m not exaggerating, when he was little it took five adults to get cold medicine into him. Once he reached school-age, a time when I should be able to reason with him better, it became even harder. We’ve actually had massive meltdowns and arguments because he simply refused to take medicine. We had to device a system: take a sip of juice and keep it in your mouth, take the shot of medicine, then chase it with more juice. Sound familiar?

Dr. Cocoa: The First Chocolate-Flavored Cold Medicine

Dr. Cocoa, as mentioned, is the first chocolate-flavored cold medicine for kids. It actually contains real cocoa, along with trusted ingredients that you would expect to find in cold or cough medicine. There are three different types:

  • Dr. Cocoa™ Long-Acting Cough Relief: relieves coughs in kids ages 4-13 for up to eight hours without causing sleepiness. The active ingredient is Dextromethorphan.
  • Dr. Cocoa™ Daytime Cough + Cold Relief: relieves stuffy nose and cough for children ages 4-13. Its non-drowsy formula makes it ideal for daytime use. Contains: Dextromethorphan and Phenylephrine
  • Dr. Cocoa™ Nighttime Cough + Cold Relief: Made especially for children ages 6-13 to relieve coughs, along with stuffy nose, runny nose and sneezing at night (active ingredients: Diphenhydramine, Phenylephrine).

As with all medicines, follow the dosing instructions on the box or talk to your pediatrician. Always use as directed.

Unfortunately, we actually had a chance to try out Dr. Cocoa already this season. The night before the first day of school, Jacob came down with a cough and cold. Fortunately, Jacob was willing to give Dr. Cocoa a try. While he still wasn’t thrilled about taking medicine, the chocolate taste did help make it less of a battle.

Dr. Cocoa Hand Puppet Giveaway

Head on over to the Dr. Cocoa Facebook page for a chance to win a super cool Dr. Cocoa hand puppet. Let me tell you, this little guy is awesome. We got one with our package and he’s become a nightly routine. It started when Jake was being grumpy and I put the hand puppet on. I made him talk (for some reason, he sounds a lot like Freud!) and Jake started laughing.

Now, every single night before bed, Dr. Cocoa asks Jake about his day, dishes out info about the human body and attempts to sing a lullaby. Our Dr. Cocoa loves to sing, but sadly he doesn’t have the talent. Yes, I admit, we are oddly obsessed with this little puppet! So seriously, go enter for your chance to win one. He may be small in size, but he’s big in personality. I could write an entire post about him alone!

Dr. Cocoa medicines are available at nationwide retailers and online. I’ve seen it in several stores lately, For more information about Dr. Cocoa™, including where to buy, visit www.drcocoa.com.
