Littler box duty is probably the least glamorous thing about being owned by a cat, aside from maybe stepping in fresh hairballs at 4AM. Yet if you want your kitty to be happy and your house to smell nice, keeping up with the litter box is an absolute MUST. Wanna know my new secret “step” to keeping my multi-cat home smelling fresh? I’m using NEW Fresh Step with the Power of Febreze!
I’m not going to lie here, my mom handles cat box duty. She lives with me and she’s pretty OCD about the boxes. When she goes out of town to visit my brother, she actually “trains” me for a week beforehand on how to properly clean them. Mind you, I am 40 years old and I’ve had cats all my life. I DO know how to clean out the litter box! Still, she has very serious and specific methods for keeping them in tip-top shape. Litter loyalty is one of them. She only really loves two brands. Fresh Step is her top choice, always. Before I tell you more about it, though, let me tell you a little story. You know I love a chance to talk about my fur kids!
Zoe’s Litter Lessons for Alex the Fuzz
You’ve all met Alex the Fuzz by now, right? He’s my sweet little feral kitten that we took in back in November. When he first moved inside, he didn’t know how to use a litter box. To him, the entire world was a potential bathroom. We were really worried that he wouldn’t catch on for a long time. We had no idea how much impact our other kitten, Zoe (6 months old at the time), would have on his training.

Zoe and Alex
Zoe is obsessed with people and other animals using the bathroom. No joke, she follows us all to the bathroom and meows at us while we “do our business.” It’s disconcerting, sure, but I’ve been a pet parent most of my life, I’m used to animal oddities. She’s also madly in love with the faucet, so basically any source of liquid fascinates her.
When Alex came along, Zoe would race to the litter box every time we took him up there. She’d jump into with him, watch him go, then cover it for him. We’d catch her nudging him along to the box and shoving his little kitten self into it, as if she was saying “this is where we go, isn’t it fun?” She took over the role of mama cat, even though she’d just been spayed weeks prior to his arrival into the family. She had him trained in just a few days.
Fresh Step with the Power of Febreze
How does this story relate to Fresh Step? As you can imagine, the Fuzz is not used to dealing with litter smells. Keeping the box clean and odor-free was even more important while training him. Just because he’s trained now, though, we can’t slack. I don’t want him to revert back to his feral habits. I also have a senior cat who’s incredibly picky about the litter box. She doesn’t like odors or dust.
New Fresh Step with the power of Febreze offers the same fabulous benefits you’d expect from Fresh Step products. Since it is made by Fresh Step, you know they have your cat’s health and happiness in mind. The “power of Febreze” part doesn’t just mask odors, it obliterates them to leave behind a fresh scent. It even has a 10-day Odor Control guarantee! The ClumpLock® Technology locks in liquid and odor right away, then forms tight clumps to make it easier to scoop. Both my mom and I have bad backs, so the less time we can spend leaning over the boxes trying to scoop out used litter, the better!
I’ve also noticed that Fresh Step with the power of Febreze is even less dusty than my other favorite formulas of Fresh Step. That’s saying a lot, because it’s already a low-dust litter brand, in my opinion. They’ve improved their formula to make it lower dust and less tracking versus their previous formulas. Low-dust is super important to me because I have allergy issues with dusty litter. It’s also important to the Fuzz because he’s been battling a kitty cold since he moved out of the wild. I try to avoid anything that triggers a sneezing episode.
I picked up my new Fresh Step with the power of Febreze at PetSmart. I opted for Multi-Cat for obvious reasons, but it also comes in Extreme and Lightweight formulas. I was up there shopping for cat food, guinea pig hay and dog treats that night already, so it was super convenient to pick up my box of litter. I’ll definitely be grabbing more when I head back up there later this week for other pet supplies.

We don’t have a cat because of allergies, but I do know a lot of my friends wish that there would be something that smelled better for kitty litter.
I do not have a multi-cat home. But when I did have a single cat, a fresh clean litter box is definitely key.
Awwww! Those kitties are ADORABLE! I love Fresh Step, and when I had a boyfriend with cats, that’s what we used. It kept that icky smell away, for sure!
Kittens are cute. Fresh steps my friends share with me how fresh their house smell since start using in the cat litter box.
Aww, look at those cuties! We love our cat but she can be pretty smelly. I have to try Fresh Step with Febreze.
Great post indeed. These would be very helpful to cat owner’s in keeping their cats fresh 🙂 I’m goimg to introduce these to my friends who owns a cat.
That’s pretty awesome. I have never owned a cat or any other pet before, but if ever I decide to, I want my home smelling fresh and clean!
These are such great tips! That smell can be really harsh but febreze really does make a huge difference!
I will buy anything that has febreze in it. It really eliminates odors. You don’t want people to know you have cats by the smell of your house!
Such a great tips. I think many cat owners would love this and they love to stay fresh their home
These are great tips. We don’t have a cat, but I will share this with my friends.

These are such great tips! When I was younger we had cats and now we are thinking of getting one for our kids. Definitely need to look into Fresh Step if we do.
This sounds like a great way to avoid odors. I’m sure it would be appreciated by my mom who owns two cats!
We have a cat now. One eyed, at that, lol. He’s coming around now and getting used to us. I’m glad he’s in the famiy.
I use Fresh Step too but I haven’t tried the Febreeze ones yet. I love the lightweight one and will have to try the Febreeze soon!

We had cats growing up and cleaning the kitty litter was the worst chore ever because of the smell. Maybe if we had this product years ago it wouldn’t have been so bad!
I don’t have a cat anymore; my little guy died when he was only 3. Hated cleaning his litter box so this would be useful.
I’ve never had a cat as I’m very allergic, but I love that your one cat taught the feral cat how to use the litter box. That’s so cute!
Awww! Kitties always need the best litter! I love that fresh step has febreze in it. It would definitely help out if you have multiple cats
Oh! I used to use Fresh Step but use the new Clump ‘n Seal by Arm and Hammer now because it’s so great but I would be curious to try this one….Febreze scented Fresh Step! I’ll look for it!
Pine pellets and baking soda does the trick in my household. I’ve had parties with litter boxes near by and no one knew they were there.
