I kind of have an obsession with GIANTmicrobes, so when they asked if I wanted to check out their Halloween collection, I was all in right away. You’re talking to a girl who adorns her tree every Christmas with Common Cold, Brain Cell, Kissing Disease, E. Coli, and a Red Amoeba, after all! Besides, what’s not to love about adorable over-sized viruses and bacteria? So yes, of course I was in!
GIANTmicrobes was actually one of the first companies I worked with on a review, way back when I was a baby blogger. I’m so glad to see that they’re still so successful. With Halloween just a week away, I definitely want to share their latest spooky offerings, but I also want to share with you why I think GIANTmicrobes makes such a great gift idea year round.

If you’re unfamiliar with GIANTmicrobes, let me give you a quick rundown. Long story short, they make ginormous-sized plush versions of microscopic “bugs” and cells. By ginormous, I don’t mean that the actual plush is all that huge. Some of them fit in the palm of your hand. They’re basically blown up to a million times the actual size. Maybe you’re thinking “Well, that’s kind of a weird gift! Who would I give that to?” I’ll tell you!
Doctors & Nurses
I don’t think I have to go into great detail about why GIANTmicrobes make PERFECT gift ideas for nurses and doctors, right? I mean, it’s pretty obvious! With well over 100 different microbes, it’s easy to find the perfect one for your favorite medical professional’s field of expertise. For example, a Heart Organ for a cardiologist, or a Ear Wax for an ENT.
Teachers
Teachers LOVE GIANTmicrobes because they really make learning fun. If my bio teacher used giant plus versions of things like DNA, bone cells and red blood cells, I would have retained all the knowledge I learned in 9th grade instead of relearning it all on my own years later. They’re not just for 9th grade bio, though. Teachers in every grade can use them. Of course, you could just go the gag gift route and give your favorite teacher a Stomach Ache or the Common Cold! I’m sure she gets enough of those throughout the years thanks to all the little germs flying around.
Kids
It’s a struggle to keep my GIANTmicrobes to myself in this house because my son loves them just as much as I do. Right now, his favorite is the Zombie Virus, which I think is one of the very few GIANTmicrobes not based on a real microbe. Actually, that’s not true. I just looked. It’s based on Pithovirus sibericum
People like me!
Pretty much anyone with a weird sense of humor is going to love GIANTmicrobes. I wanted to be a virologist when I was younger, but ended up going in a different direction with my life. Mostly because I found out that the degree program requires a lot of math and chemistry. I’m not good at either. I just wanted to hunt big, bad, bugs. I did go to nursing school for a few semesters, but again, my life took a different direction. With so many microbes to choose from, there’s literally a cute plush disease or body cell for everyone!
I want to say one more thing before I send you on your merry way. I know a few people who say that it’s tasteless to turn deadly pathogens and devastating diseases like HIV into cuddly, fun toys and collectibles. If you think about it, though, it’s not. GIANTmicrobes is actually helping to raise awareness about more diseases. They also donate a portion of their sales from certain pathogens to organizations that help research an cure these diseases. For example, a portion of the sales on Tetanus goes to NFID.
