I’m definitely going to try the peanut butter pumpkin one! I usually make no-bake treats for them out of PB, pumpkin puree, and oatmeal. I’ve never really tried baking them a cake, though. I’ll be honest, I’m not exactly a cake-baking whiz. All of mine come out lopsided! I don’t think my dogs will mind, making them the perfect guinea pigs for trying to hone my skills.

Tips for making these dog cake recipes

One thing I love about these dog cake recipes: they all have “human-grade” ingredients. While they may not be as sweet as your bday cake, you could totally share a slice with your pooch. Even the meat loaf cake is something the family can actually eat (if you eat meat, of course).

Another great thing about them: at least half are allergen-friendly for dogs. Coconut and almond flour are great alternatives to wheat-based flour for dogs who have food issues. Even with the meat lovers cake, you could sub out the beef with something like turkey (which works well for a lot of dogs, even if they have chicken issues). One thing to keep in mind when you buy the peanut butter: stick to national brands. There are about four specialty “natural” brands that contain xylitol. While that’s fine for us, it’s deadly to our dogs. Also, just like in human babies, you want to skip the honey until your pup is about a year old.
