For Book Lovers
My mom is a fellow book lover, but buying her books is kind of challenging. Like me, she’s embraced the e-reader revolution wholeheartedly. If your mom is like mine, finding gift ideas for book-lover moms under $20 is a bit of a challenge! You can’t just buy her a few books and call it a day, and an Amazon gift card to get her own just feels a little impersonal. Don’t worry, though, you have other options! A few ideas that I love include:
If your mom stays up way past her bedtime reading, she’ll need this mug the next morning to get her caffeine kick-start!
I have a little journal that I use to keep track of every book I’ve read since 2002 (when I started it), but now I really want this Reading Journal for Book Lovers! Along with space to keep track of her read books, it features a bunch of recommendation lists in every genre.
If the “bookmark” coffee mug isn’t really mom’s thing, try this one! I love reading all the first lines and trying to figure out which books they came from! At first glance, I see the first line from Fahrenheit 451, A Christmas Carol, and Moby Dick! Which ones do you know?
My mom doesn’t wear jewelry often, but if she did I’d definitely grab her this library book necklace! As a book lover myself, I can tell you that I’d be thrilled to receive this unique piece of jewelry!
I love learning new words, and the stranger the better! Did you know that the Japanese have a specific word for the sunlight that filters through the leaves of a tree? It’s Komorebi! How about the word Jentacular, which is an English word having to do with an early breakfast? The book comes in both hardcover and Kindle edition.
For Foodie Moms
Kusmi Tea sent me a few tins of their amazing tea to try out, and I’ll be sharing a more in-depth review shortly. While their larger tins are outside the “under $20” range, they have a good selection of smaller tins that fit the budget limit, including the Four Red Fruits tin pictured above. I love it because my mom likes to keep pretty tins, so it’s two gifts in one!
Serious foodie moms who love trivia games will get a kick out of Food Fight! The game comes with over 1,000 food-related questions on everything from food history to exotic cuisine!
Finding gourmet chocolate under $20 isn’t an easy feat, but I did it! If your mom is open to trying new chocolate combinations, she’ll adore the Chuao sampler! I would love to taste the Spicy Maya or the Firecracker! Yum!
Add a pop of color to her kitchen with these fun bamboo cooking utensils! The ergonomic handles include built-in hanging holes.
I have a set of these Mason jar measuring cups in red, and I really love them. They’re made of ceramic, so they’re easier for me to clean than our plastic measuring cups!
For Moms With a Sense of Humor
Console your mom while also reminding her of your adorableness with this hilarious mug!
This fun adult coloring book is full of all the random things that moms say to their kids, like “Don’t lick that!” and “Because I said so!” Oddly, these are also things that I say to my dogs on a daily basis!
If mom is a wine drinker, she’ll appreciate these silly socks. Tell her to kick back, put her feet up and relax! You’ll follow the directions on the socks and do the rest!
We’re huge fans of adult coloring books in my home. Both my mom and I love them! This one features 74 pages of hilarious mom snark to color!
While this could have gone under book lovers, it’s definitely a book that requires the reader to have a sense of humor. While I’m not much of a drinker, I’m definitely a sweary mom. Not at my son, just in general. I hide it well, don’t I?
Plant Theatre has a bunch of these little gardening kits. The Funky Veg Kit comes with almost everything mom needs to grow five unusual veggies, including: purple carrots, yellow courgettes, striped tomatoes, red Brussels sprouts, and multi-colored Swiss chard. Also includes 5 starter peat pots and peat pods, plant markers, and growing tips.
Okay, so these look a little freaky, but those claws let your mom dig in her garden without pulling out all her tools. The gloves are made of breathable materials while still remaining both waterproof and puncture-resistant. I love the purple, but they also come in green (which is more of a teal to me).
This book is great for moms who entertain, bar-tend, or just like a really good cocktail on occasion. At 400 pages, it’s crammed with fascinating information on the plants that go into making the world’s most popular drinks. From the grain of rice that got Japan excited about sake to the sugarcane that made rum such a popular spirit, it has pretty much everything you could ever want to know about boozy botany.
This long-lasting, distinctive gardener’s soap is made with gentle ingredients for your mom’s sensitive hands. It comes in a cute carrying tin, so she can keep it out by her garden sink or stick it in her tote. It’s made in the USA by a family-owned company, too!
I looked at a bunch of different garden kneeling pads and this is the one I’m choosing for my mom. At 1.5″ thick, it’s pretty much the thickest one I could find that’s still easily toted around the garden. It’s made with durable high-density foam and comes with a 1-year warranty. They’ll even return your money with no questions asked if you don’t love it.
Obviously, you can’t buy mom a vacation for under $20! You can, however, buy her fabulous gifts to use on vacation! These are also great ideas for moms who have to travel a lot for work.
This kit comes with a clear passport cover, TSA-accepted luggage lock, a handy scale to make sure she’s not going over her baggage weight limit (if you go over by even a few ounces they make you pay exorbitant fees), and a silk eye mask & earplugs to help her get some sleep on the plane! It also has a World Travel Adapter so she can plug her phone and other devices in pretty much anywhere.
One of the most popular travel bucket-list books has been completely updated from cover to cover, adding over 200 completely new entries to the list. The book is packed full of hundreds of colorful photos to help mom plan her dream vacation!
Help mom keep her identity and credit cards safe in style with this cute (and highly rated) RFID blocking wallet. It’s roomy enough for her passport, essential credit cards, cash, and even her plane tickets. Plus, it comes in a ton of colors, including neutral shades like black, brown, and gray.
The pages in this stylish travel journal are all blank, so mom can write, sketch, or doodle notes about her journey. While the outside looks like an old-fashioned journal, the inside is actually a binder that lets you easily add more pages. It comes in 5 different colors.
Love The Body Shop’s Body Butters but can’t choose between just one? Get mom a 5-pack of travel-sized butters in some of their most popular scents! Each butter is made with Community Trade shea butter from Ghana, and the whole set transforms into a fun little travel game!
