DVD Review: Nickelodeon Favorites: Merry Christmas! We are slightly nuts for holiday movies in this house. Even before Jake was born, I had a huge collection and tried to watch at least one movie or holiday special every day beginning on Thanksgiving. In fact, before Jake, I used to have very strict rules governing when anything holiday-related could be heard, seen, or watched in our house- no early than the moment Santa came down the street in the parade, and no later than the moment the big ball dropped in Times Square. Of course, once Jake was about three, all those rules went out the window. He started watching Christmas movies randomly throughout the year despite my best efforts to delegate them to the back of a shelf until it was time to bring them out into rotation.

Jake is a big fan of the Nick Jr. shows. Even though he’s now six and sliding out of the channel’s target demographic, he’s been watching shows like Dora, Diego, and Blue’s Clues since he was a baby and he’s not about to give them up any time soon. We actually had about half of the specials on Nickelodeon Favorites: Merry Christmas! on other DVD’s, which meant I would have to get up and restart the Christmas episode a dozen times, or switch the DVD when he decided to watch another. I love having all of them in one place now, and there are a few new ones for him as well.

Nickelodeon Favorites: Merry Christmas!  features six of the most popular Nick Jr. shows in their very own Christmas specials. In Dora The Explorer: A Present for Santa, Dora and Boots decide that it would be nice if the jolly old elf got his own Christmas present for once, since he’s always leaving them for everyone else. In Go, Diego, Go! : Diego Saves Christmas the junior animal rescuer has to find Linda the Llama to help pull Santa’s sleigh when it gets stuck in the snow. Blue’s Clues: Blues First Holiday  is my personal favorite because it shows the very first game of Blue’s Clues ever and shows how everyone met the adorable little blue puppy.

Other episodes on Nickelodeon Favorites: Merry Christmas!  include the double-feature The Wonder Pets Save the Reindeer, Team Umizoomi: Santa’s Little Fixers, and Ni-Hao Ki-Lan: The Snowiest Ride. The DVD releases on October 4, 2011. With about two hours of Nick Jr. favorites celebrating the season in different ways, this is sure to get your kids into the holiday spirit!
