I just joined SeededBuzz, and although I haven’t really figured it out yet, I saw a seed from The Practice of Madness (love that blog title, especially since my favorite quote happens to be about madness!) asking bloggers to share their all-time favorite quote from a novel and thought it looked fun.
I don’t have a favorite movie, song, band, food, or anything else really. I have lists of favorites in each category, but they tend to swap positions depending on my mood. However, when it comes to books, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has always been in the number one spot. My second favorite book changes monthly it seems, but nothing out there has managed to jostle the little blonde Alice and her amazing adventures through Wonderland from that top position.
My favorite quote from the book, and from any novel in general, has also always remained the same.
“’But I don’t want to go among mad people,’ Alice remarked.
‘Oh, you can’t help that,’ said the Cat. ‘We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.’
‘How do you know I’m mad?’ said Alice.
‘You must be,” said the Cat. ‘or you wouldn’t have come here.’”
I think, of all the quotes in all the books out there, this one really just says it all. We’re all mad here. Every last one of us is just a little insane. I mean, you kind of have to be at least a little mad to make it through this world relatively unscathed, don’t you think?
I also love Words in Sync‘s response to this question, as Dracula is another of my favorites.
So what about you? What is your all-time favorite quote from a novel?
