Yo Gabba Gabba: Super SpiesHey there, all you Yo Gabba Gabba! fans, guess what? Jason Bateman is starring in a brand new, never before seen episode of the hit children’s musical show in Yo Gabba Gabba: Super Spies, which releases on DVD on April 17th, 2012. In the titular episode, Bateman stars as an evil spy who steals the Gabba Land balloon art. The gang must use some pretty nifty gadgets to track down Bateman and get their stuff back.

It was really fun seeing Jason Bateman doing a kid’s show, especially since I grew up watching him on shows like Little House on the Prairie, and that one where he played a Hogan (IMDB says it was called “Valerie’s Family,” but I could swear it had a different name back then). Bateman is definitely one of those guys who gets better with age.

Yo Gabba Gabba is one of those shows that grows on you. When my son first started watching it, I thought it was bizarre, and it even kind of freaked me out a bit! But now I have to admit that I kind of like it. Jake still refers back to songs, just the other he was singing “Try it, You’ll Like It!” when Sal was trying to convince me to try some sort of pizza with spinach on it (I don’t eat spinach, sorry Popeye!). So at least I know the messages are getting through.

Other episodes on Yo Gabba Gabba: Super Spies include:

Mystery

Toodee and Plex go searching for Foofa who has disappeared. Toodee finds clues to solve the mystery.  Toodee and Plex find Foofa at the beach and meet her cool brother Foofle. Ladytron performs, Jack McBrayer and Paul Scheer tell a knock-knock joke and Biz Markie is featured in the recurring “Biz’s Beat of the Day” segment.

Space

The Gabba gang goes on a space adventure in a flying saucer. They look through a telescope at the stars and planets.  In space they meet new friends and discover a new planet.  Musical guests Electrocute perform and Mark Mothersbaugh is featured in the recurring “Mark’s Magic Pictures” segment.

Big

Brobee gets frustrated about being the little one, and he wants to know what it’s like to be big like DJ Lance.  He accidentally switches places with DJ Lance and grows big, but Brobee has a hard time being like DJ Lance.  DJ Lance and Brobee switch places again and everything is back to normal in Gabbaland.  Musical guest Jem performs and Mark Mothersbaugh is featured in the recurring “Mark’s Magic Pictures” segment.

The DVD also includes a fun little interactive spy game so kids can continue the fun after the episode ends.I still think the music lyrics are pretty out there, but Jake seems to think it’s pretty rockin‘!
