Children in Japan have been enjoying Tomy’s line of trains, vehicles, and playsets for longer than I’ve been alive. Now, the Tomica line is coming to the US to thrill and delight children over here! Jacob and I had a chance to check out one of the newest Tomica arrivals, the Hypercity Rescue Storm Runner Jet. This super cool toy transforms into three different vehicles – a jet, a submarine and a race car. It’s like having three different toys in one!

About the Hypercity Rescue Storm Runner Jet

• Transforms into the three different vehicles with minimal effort. Although we did have a hard time figuring out how to get the cargo bay thing off once we put it on.
• Comes with jet, a non-motorized hero engine, a TomiHero figure and two missiles. Jake loves anything with missiles!
• No batteries required. Pure kid-driven fun!
• The cargo holder bays (not sure what else to call them) can hold small Tomica vehicles or your child’s other small cars.
• Can be played with alone or added to a collection of other Tomica Hypercity toys to create a whole new world of adventure.

Getting the Tomica Hypercity Rescue Storm Runner Jet out of the box was surprisingly easy. Sure, it had those little twisties and what not, but a few snips and the whole set was free. It comes in two main pieces: the vehicle and the “hero engine,” which contains the little cargo bays. We started out with the race car to check that out.

With a few flips of the pieces and the addition of the Hero Engine, the Tomica Hypercity Rescue Storm Runner Jet  became a  whole new vehicle in seconds.

I tried to get a good picture of the cargo bays to show you what I’m talking about. Have I mentioned that I really need a better camera? Anyway, this at least gives you an idea. You can fit little cars in those open doors. Press a button, and they come launching out.
