Growing up, and even now, I’ve never been a big fan of vegetables. In fact, I can count on one hand the types that I’ll actually eat. However, I always loved potatoes. Okay, fine, many say they’re not technically vegetables, and I suppose that’s true, but when you’re a kid, they count! I have to admit, my favorite type of potatoes were always French Fries. Yes, I know, they’re not the healthiest version of the vegetable (sorry, but they remain a veggie to me and no amount of arguing is going to take that away from me!), but they’re definitely the tastiest. Then, I discovered a whole different type of fry- sweet potato fries! I am pretty sure sweet potatoes count as vegetables, so I finally win the whole “potatoes count” argument. I love ordering sweet potato fries from our local diner, but never thought I’d find a decent way to make them at home. Turns out, McCain Foods All Natural Swee & Spicy fries are even better than the diner’s version!
Not only did I find exactly what I was looking for in the McCain Sweet & Spicy Fries, I can get them any time from my grocery store for a decent price, and they’re healthier than the oil-cooked versions. They bake up in my oven pretty fast, and even faster in my microwave. Honestly, though, I recommend the oven method, as nothing tastes as good from the nuker as it does from the oven. Kind of like how the book is always better than the movie.
Delicious, All Natural, Fuss-Free Fries
McCain uses all-natural ingredients in their All-Natural Potatoes line. That definitely makes a difference in the taste, they’re purely delicious! While that’s definitely the most important feature of the potatoes, to me convenience is also a major concern. I am not a cook. I can barely make food from a box properly. I’m also insanely busy lately, trying to catch up from the whole not being without power for over a week. I don’t really have time to mess with potatoes- peeling, washing, and whatever else people who know what they’re doing do with them. With McCain All Natural Potatoes, it’s as easy as preheating the oven, opening the bag, dumping them on a cookie sheet, and baking. Have I mentioned how much I love easy?
The true test of any food that enters my house these days is how it stands up to my son’s picky nature. You think I’m a picky eater with only liking about 5 different veggies? That child takes picky to a whole new level. He’s also more of a fan of fries than any other type of potato. Plus, he really, really loves diner sweet potatoes. Guess what? Mr. Finicky actually liked them!
