I love smoothies because you can pretty much throw just about anything in a blender and come out with a delicious drink. Well, maybe not anything. Still, you have like this massive range of options! At any given time, I know I have at least something in my house that will go great in a smoothie recipe.
The other night I was in the mood for something but couldn’t decide what. I knew I wanted something with bananas in it, but I didn’t have the right stuff to make anything really fancy. I’ve had the flu (or a really bad cold at least) for days now and really didn’t want to spend a lot of time trying to bake something anyway. Since my throat was feeling less than stellar, I figured a smoothie would be just the right thing for it.
I’m going to tell you right now, if you don’t add a bit of sweetener to this smoothie recipe, it’s a bit bitter. So while the sugar or Splenda is optional, I suggest adding it. I think, though, that if you use riper bananas, it will be sweeter. Also I had these monster strawberries (I swear, they’re mutant fruit!), so if yours aren’t quite so monstrous, I suggest adding a couple more to the mix.
Check out how to make this smoothie recipe:
Ingredients:
-3 Large Strawberries
-1 Banana
-6oz Yogurt (I used Banana-Strawberry, you can use Vanilla or Plain if you prefer)
-6oz milk
-1 tbs Dark Chocolate Powder (I used Hershey’s)
-1 tbs Splenda (optional, depending on how sweet you want it. You can use sugar too.)
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth
- Drink.
I used my Magic Bullet, which I’ve had for many years now and it still works great. I do want to eventually get one of those Ninjas though, or maybe the NutriBullet thing. That looks pretty cool and supposedly preserves all the health benefits of the fruits you put in it. Really, you can’t go wrong with a smoothie recipe as long as you include the basic elements: milk and fruit.
Do you have a favorite smoothie recipe? Tell me about it (or leave a link in the comments so I can check it out). I’m always looking for new yummy things to try, especially if they’re easy!
I love the ingredients, they sound so fresh and natural. I’d love to try this!

So So So much bye bye.
This sounds amazing! Sadly, I can’t eat bananas anymore, though, because I can’t digest them. So now I am sad….lol.
I love chocolate smoothies, but whenever I try to make them at home they end up too runny. I really need to figure out how to do it better.
Oooh, you had me at dark chocolate. I love smoothies.
I can’t wait to try this smoothie recipe. I’ve been wanting to try to make some smoothies here at home.
OH that Dark Chocolate strawberry banana smoothie sounds absolutely amazing right about now! I live for dark chocolate smoothies. And even better when they have fruit in them!
I am a huge fan of chocolate so this would be right up my alley.
This looks so good. I love bananas and chocolate, so I would love this.

You had me at Dark Chocolate! This looks absolutely delicious!
I have been wanting to get into making smoothies, especially as an alternative to lunch or breakfast. This one looks truly inviting and delicious.
I love my Ninja! This shake sounds pretty good. I think I might like it bitter as well as sweetened though I’ll probably flake out and use frozen strawberries with sugar. Maybe. It’s possible since strawberries are out of season, your’s may not have been as sweet as they will be as the weather warms up more. It’s a shame I’m going to have to try this recipe multiple times to find out. 😉
I’ve been debating on getting a Magic Bullet because I’m tired of using my juicer, plus I can’t make smoothies with it. Thanks for sharing your smoothie recipe!
This is one of my latest addictions…so thanks for this smoothie recipe. Much different from most of the others, and variety is the spice of life.
I love my magic bullet. I scored one for $10 and it works amazing. Just made a smoothie in it yesterday with strawberries and orange juice. Yummy. Might have to try adding some cocoa powder next time.
I will have to try to find something to use in place of the yogurt, it sounds like a great recipe though. Maybe one of the frozen lactose free ice creams – ice cream is good too!
This recipe looks really great! I need to drink more smoothies 🙂
smoothies must be the new thing to be making I have seen a lot of other smoothie recipes lately. This recipe is right up my alley.
Ooh, this looks yummy. I love strawberry banana smoothies but adding chocolate just sounds perfect.
Yum. Looks amazing. I like the way bananas taste and thicken up smoothies.
I want to try this combination of ingredients. 3 of my favorites!

Oh my goodness. This sounds divine. I will have to try it soon, I am a big fan of that combination you mentioned using regular chocolate but I love dark so I am thinking I would love this.
This looks so delicious! Adding this to the list of drinks I want to try.
That sounds delicious! I will have to try it!!
I personally love smoothies with milk, banana and mango. They are so yummy. I’d love to try this chocolate one though.
My mother would surely love love love this drink! It’s got all of her favorite ingredients.
I have just started making smoothies and this sounds like one to try! I love chocolate and this sounds divine!
This sounds like a perfect way to curb a sweet tooth and not to way over on calories! I will have to try it!
This is the perfect treat for me! Can’t wait to try it out.
Oh this sounds delightful. I am so going to give this a try. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
I love smoothies, but I don’t have them as often as I would otherwise, because I don’t like having to deal with the blender. First, it is old and finicky and tends to jam up, and then cleaning it. If I have the opportunity for a nice present, I would ask for a decent blender – smoothies here I’d come, esp any with banana!!!!
Could I use the Dark Chocolate flavored Silk and frozen strawberries with chunks of frozen banana in one. I have a blender on me and have made pina colada smoothies. Sooooo good.
That sounds like it would work very well! I love smoothies because pretty much anything goes.
