This post was made possible through the support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. All opinions are my own.
Remember back in July, I told you how excited I am to be the lead blogger for fall’s Miracle Marathon, specifically in support of Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA? If you need a refresher, check out that post here. Today I want to share exactly why I’m so happy to be part of this. I mean, aside from helping children get the care they need!
If you’ve been with me for a while, you may know about Jacob’s birth story. It was kind of crazy. Long story short: I gave birth 8 weeks early due to preeclampsia, Jacob was 3 pounds, 5 ounces AND they broke his arm getting him out. He spent 13 days in the NICU and required quite a bit of care after he came home. While I can’t say for certain whether Jacob’s hospital was part of the Children’s Miracle Network, I know first hand how important it is to have access to quality care for your child.
Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital
The hospital that I am trying to raise awareness about is the Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville, PA (they also have a unit at the hospital in Wilkes-Barre). I was unable to take a tour of the hospital due to car troubles, but I spoke with the wonderful Coordinator, Kate, about the services provided. I asked her how many kids came through the hospital each year. She told me:
Janet Weis Children’s Hospital treats approximately 4,000 children a year. But, if you consider all of the pediatric facilities at Geisinger throughout the state of PA, close to 200,000 children are treated each year. That is inpatient and outpatient combined. Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger funds equipment, programs and services for all of the peds locations throughout Geisinger Health System.
While it would be a better world if no child ever needed medical care, the reality is that kids get sick. They get hurt. When they do, they need the best possible medical care available. The Miracle Network makes sure they get it.
Let’s Make Miracles Together!
Are you ready to make miracles happen for kids? Join me in the Miracle Marathon! What is it? Well, the Miracle Marathon is a 27-day virtual fundraising campaign in which participants run/walk (or achieve forward motion of any kind!) one mile per day at their leisure. The first 26 days are completed at the participant’s own pace—at a time and place of their own choosing. On Day 27, the final 1.2 miles will be started as a group at the same time (2:27 pm EST). It’s a marathon, plus a mile, for the kids!
There are so many ways that you can accomplish your marathon! Take a mile-long walk with your dog. Stroll around the block a couple of times a day. Walk around the mall and window shop. Just as long as you are moving, you’re working towards the goal!
Please join me and register to support Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital or another Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, and tell your friends too! And if you register as a Miracle Maker (you’ll receive fun swag!), you can use my special code MiracleNicole to get a 10% discount off registration. It’s such an amazing cause.
