Are you as incredibly excited about the March 20th premier of The Divergent Series: Insurgent as I am? While I’m kind of sad that I no longer have the stamina or the lifestyle that allows me to buy tickets for the very first midnight showing on opening night, I’m definitely going to see it during opening week! One of the benefits of being a work-at-home-mom and a grown-up fan: I can go in the middle of the day when the theater is far less crowded.
I’ll go see it with Sal. It’s the perfect date-night movie. He works 3rd shift, so for him, the afternoon is the night. We saw the first movie together and he’s looking forward to The Divergent Series: Insurgent as well. Although he didn’t read (and obsess) over Veronica Roth’s books, he loves the story and the action in the movies. I think that’s what makes it perfect for date night: it has something for everyone. Action, suspense, good vs. evil and epic love.
The cool stunts and action sequences are enough to convince your guy to see The Divergent Series: Insurgent. Whether you choose to see in in 2D, Digital 3D, IMAX® 3D or RealD™ 3D, you’ll get an inside look at the factions like never before. The trailer alone gives me chills!
What makes The Divergent Series: Insurgent THE Must-See Date Night Movie?
Action, adventure, good vs. evil. Love, hate, drama and suspense. Amazing stunts, incredible effects. These make a movie fun to watch, but they don’t make it special. They don’t make it memorable. Veronica Roth created incredibly memorable books. The movies based off those books should be equally unforgettable. I know it won’t be exactly the same down to every detail, and I’m fine with that. Books have the luxury of taking their time to get to the point. Movies need to keep moving so viewers remain engaged. Also so they don’t end up with a 20-hour film!
Three reasons to see Divergent Series: Insurgent on date night
The Divergent Series: Insurgent makes a perfect date-night movie because it does several spectacular things. First, it bridges the gap between your interests and his. If he likes action and you like drama, you both win.
Second, it gives him a way to share your interests without actually have to SHARE your interests. I love to read. I devoured each of The Divergent Series books within hours. Sal really isn’t into reading as a hobby. When the series existed as books alone, it wasn’t a common interest. When it hit the big screen and we saw it together, though, we could finally discuss it. It became a common interest. It bridged a gap.
Finally, The Divergent Series: Insurgent opens up a HUGE world of discussion possibilities. I believe that entire college courses could be taught on modern-day dystopian fiction. Roth, Collins (of the Hunger Games) and a few select others are the modern-day Huxleys and Orwells. Before anyone says there is no comparison, remember, our modern-day writers are creating fiction for a modern-day generation. Of course the style is different. The warnings, though, remain: this is what society COULD look like if we keep on certain paths.
The Divergent Series: Insurgent Date Night Conversation Starters
To make it easy for you, I’ve come up with a few possible conversation topics for your ride home. These work whether you see the movie with your significant other, your teenager or your book club. I’m trying not to spoil anything here, so I’ve kept them vague. I didn’t see the movie yet, obviously, but I’m assuming the main points will align with the book.
- Why are the Divergent seen as such a threat to society? What is the film trying to say about our society right now? How have free-thinkers been hunted down in our own world throughout time?
- Are the Erudite basically the human equivalent of evil AI? Think about it: they have an incredible intelligence yet completely lack the empathy to know how to wield it humanely. Basically, they’re living, breathing computers.
- In the first movie, we didn’t see or hear too much about Amity. In The Divergent Series: Insurgent, they play a larger role. After seeing exactly HOW Amity keeps the peace, what are your feelings about them? Do the ends justify the means? It is more important to live in a peaceful society or a free society?
- What do you think about the end of the movie? I’m not talking about the big “cliffhanger.” We all knew what was beyond that fence from day one, right? I’m talking about the “new government” idea. How do you think that will go over? Do you think it will be better or worse than the faction system?
See, The Divergent Series: Insurgent really is THE perfect date night movie! Whether you’ve read the books in one night, have an appetite for smart action films or just want to see some crazy-good stunts, this movie offers something for everyone of every age. Check out the offical The Divergent Series website for more information and some incredibly cool fun stuff.
Skip the lines and buy your tickets online! If you haven’t seen the first movie (or want a refresher), definitely check this page out now to catch the first one on the big screen again. Some theaters are running back-t0-back viewings of both movies for a very limited time.
Will you be seeing The Divergent Series: Insurgent? What are you most looking forward to about the movie?
Ok I’m so bad when it comes to new movies out in the theaters lol… I have never heard of this one until now… I’m not usually into action kids movies, but this doesn’t sound that bad. I’m sure my hubby would love it 🙂
We can’t wait to watch this and I’m looking forward to it. We all are in fact because we are huge action movies fans. Thanks so much for sharing and for sharing the link to buy the tickets online.
My hubby and I rented Divergent on a whim since we heard other people talking about it, and we enjoyed it without knowing what to expect. We are looking forward to the next movie in the series, too. But as someone who loves to read the book before seeing the movie, I hope I have the time to devour the books before we cue up the movie!
My husband has read the series and saw the first movie. I, however, had never even heard of them until recently. It seems like it would be a decent film, but I just don’t have an interest in this type of stuff. Since we have kids, we never get to the movies anymore but maybe I’ll watch it with my husband when it comes out on Redbox.
I don’t know what Divergent is about and I’m not sure if my husband wanted to see it or not – but it looks like one of those movies (from the poster at least) that i think I’d like.
I can not see wait to see this movie!! I was surprised how much I enjoyed the first movie when I saw it. This whole series seems like it’s going to be amazing movie like the first one.
This will be an awesome movie … can’t wait to see it in theatres!
I would definitely watch this. We’ve seen the Divergent and loved it. She looks more mature on this one, can’t wait!
I’m curious to see how this next installment of the movie franchise will turn out. I enjoyed seeing the first, and the training scenes kept me interested, as well as the twist with the mother. I will rent it when it comes out on DVD.
I liked the first one and this movie is going to be so exciting to see! I like it when there is a series of movies and new stories.
This is actually on my list of movies to see. It’s a long list, unless it’s on DVD, redbox or Netflix.. I don’t normally go out and see movies. Forget date night, I like to watch movies alone, though watching it with someone would be nice too. I don’t believe I have seen the diverent series though or If I have I need to catch up.
I like your list of conversation starters. My husband always likes questions like that after reading a book like this (or seeing the movie). I read this series, but haven’t watched the movies, and I don’t plan on it. I’m one of those weird ones that doesn’t like seeing the movie versions of the books that I like. 🙂
