Colgate Sensitive Toothbrush and Toothpaste If you have sensitive teeth, you know that it can make eating some of your favorite foods a bit of a nightmare. There’s really little worse than that zapping feeling that goes through your entire mouth when you hit a sensitive spot! It kind of feels like chewing on tin foil. You know, like when you’re eating a piece of candy and you didn’t get all the wrapping off, and that foil hits your tooth? Well, for people with sensitive teeth, both hot and cold foods can trigger that horrible feeling.

It gives me chills just thinking about it! Fortunately, Colgate has designed a totally cool new product to help relieve that creepy, crawly pain related to sensitive teeth. But first, let’s talk about how we get that sensation in the first place. It’ll be fun, I promise!

What Causes Sensitive Teeth?

I like to know the why behind things, so I went in search of the cause of sensitive teeth. We all know that our teeth are made up of enamel, dentin, pulp and roots, right? Then, of course, we have the nerves.  The enamel is the hard stuff on the outside that protects everything. The dentin is the softer core underneath. It’s actually made up of tons of itty bitty little tubules that lead to the root and nerves. Typically, the enamel protects the dentin and keeps food, drinks and other little bits and pieces away from those tubules.

When that enamel gets worn down, though, the dentin gets exposed. That, of course, means those little tubules get exposed too, which in turn means your nerves are an unblocked tunnel away from pain triggers. Kind of sounds like a design flaw, if you ask me, but really, enamel is pretty darn strong. It’s actually the strongest substance in the human body, according to Colgate® Enamel Health™. Unfortunately, it can wear away over the years (or sooner, depending on genetics).

So that’s basically where sensitive teeth come from: a breakdown in the enamel that exposes the dentin, tubules and, by default, nerves. I’m not a dentist, so I’m sure it’s far more complex than that, but that’s my best explanation in my own layman’s terms.

Understanding WHY we can have sensitive teeth doesn’t do a whole lot of good unless we also know HOW to relieve the pain. Colgate has two great solutions to help with that. These solutions work together as a beautiful system that I’ve tried out.

First, they have  Colgate® Enamel Health™ Multi-Protection Toothpaste . It’s not just the prettiest box on the shelf with its iridescent, shimmery beauty, it’s also quite the powerful oral health companion for people with sensitive teeth! I love it because it’s minty-fresh without leaving me feeling like I’m breathing fire. I don’t just have sensitive teeth, I’m also a big baby when it comes to too much zing in my toothpaste.

Colgate® Enamel Health™ Multi-Protection Toothpaste fights cavities and bad breath, as all toothpaste should. It also gently polishes AND helps build increasing protection against sensitivity. Find New Relief For Your Sensitive Teeth pain with Colgate® Sensitivity Toothbrush + Built-In Sensitivity Relief Pen If you really want to relieve those sensitive teeth, I highly recommend adding the  Colgate® Sensitivity Toothbrush + Built-In Sensitivity Relief Pen to your twice-daily brushing routine. It’s super convenient and really easy to use. Simply  BRUSH.APPLY.GO.™!

The Colgate® Sensitivity Toothbrush has bristles that are 48% softer than the ordinary soft toothbrush. The little raised cleaning cups help get into those hard-to-reach spots, and the tongue and cheek cleaner makes it easy to get your whole mouth clean.

Take the toothpaste and the toothbrush alone and you have a powerful combo, but Colgate went all out and added a whole new tool to the mix: the Built-In Sensitivity Relief Pen. I LOVE this pen! It fits right into the accompanying Colgate Sensitivity Toothbrush, so you don’t have to worry about losing it in your bathroom drawer or organizer. When you need it, you just twist it out, twist the cap and apply the gel. What gel, you ask? Ah, that’s the good stuff! Find New Relief For Your Sensitive Teeth pain with Colgate® Sensitivity Toothbrush + Built-In Sensitivity Relief Pen The Sensitivity Relief Pen contains Colgate’s unique Pro-Argin™ Technology. It has a fresh minty taste and doesn’t feel sticky or gooey on your teeth. You just use the tip of the pen to massage it into your affected teeth for one minute, then put it back in its handy spot in your toothbrush.
