The Minions movie is releasing on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD on Tuesday, December 8th, just in time for the holiday season. Jake and I missed out on seeing it in theaters, so we’ve been anxiously awaiting the DVD release. We were super happy when we got the Minions Blu-ray/DVD/DIGITAL HD Combo ahead of time for review! Jake is still bragging about it to his friends.
We’re totally mad for Minions!
Both Jacob and I succumbed to Minion madness long ago, back when the Despicable Me first came out. I still remember the first preview, with the Minions standing there on the screen turning that moo can back and forth. Their laugh was completely adorable and contagious. I was hooked. After the success of the two Despicable Me movies, it made sense that the little cuties would get their own film. I love that the writers went with an origin story!
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, this really is one you’ll WANT to watch with your kids. Our copy arrived on a day that I had plans for the evening. I tried to convince Jake to wait for me to watch it. No such luck. He did agree to re-watch it with me the following night, though. I made him promise: no spoilers! He tried to tell me that something cool happened at the end. NO SPOILERS, kid!! It IS pretty cool though!
Minions starts back at the dawn of our time, more or less, when creatures first crawled out of the primordial goo. From the start, they just wanted an ultimate villain that they could serve. T-Rex, Dracula, Napoleon- they were all pretty good evil masters, but something always went wrong. That “something” usually involved mishaps from the Minions themselves.
Eventually, the poor little guys end up all lonely and depressed in the Arctic (or Antarctica, North Pole, Alaska, I wasn’t clear on that part. It was cold!). With no master to serve, they have no direction and no purpose. Then one day, Kevin comes up with a plan. He’ll go out and find them a new master! He takes along sweet, child-like Bob and rockstar-wannabe Stuart. Together, they set off to find the biggest, baddest boss ever.
Their journey takes them on a hilarious journey through the 1960s US and England. It’s like a road-trip comedy meets Austin Powers for kids meets, well, Despicable Me. Except it’s Minions! They’re in their own class. Jacob was enraptured by the film and has watched it many times. Knowing his love for the Despicable Me flicks, he’ll watch it many more times. What may surprise you is how well it holds YOUR interest! It’s such a fun movie to watch!
What’s on the Minions Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD Combo?
Since the Minions will likely be on holiday wish lists for kids of all ages, I highly recommend getting the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD Combo. Aside from being able to watch the movie in all formats, you’ll also get:
- 3 super spectacular, brand new Minions mini-movies! My favorite is The Competition!
- Deleted Scenes
- A Minion-style rendition of Jingle Bells
- Around the World Interactive Map
- A behind the “goggles” look at the story of the Minions
I felt like Minions was definitely worth the wait. More importantly, Jacob was thrilled with the movie too. Watching the Minions will absolutely brighten up your day! In the middle of a stressful season, we can all use a little down time to cuddle up with our kids and enjoy a good movie!
Did you see the Minions? What was your favorite part? Tell me in the comments!

My son LOVES the Minions! We have seen it once and I am pretty sure before this season is over we will have seen it as least 1 more time.
I may have to pick this up on Blu-ray soon. I’ve seen the Despicable Me films but I haven’t checked out Minions yet!
This is perfect! We’re going to be on the road 5 straight days over the holidays. The minions movie would be an excellent distraction!

My twin granddaughters love the minions. I have to get them a copy, so they can watch it again.
