I’ve never met a dog with a brighter mind than my lab/collie Maia. She’s not just smart, she’s downright clever. You can see it on her face and in her eyes. When she was a pup, she was too small to jump on the bed herself, so we’d lift her up. As she grew, for the longest time, we thought she couldn’t jump! Why? Because she kept putting her front paws on the bed, turning around and looking to us for assistance. One day I caught her jumping up on her own when no one was around. Turns out Maia could jump just fine, she just preferred someone else to do the heavy lifting.
I have a million and one examples of how Maia uses her cleverness to get her minions to do her bidding. From scoring extra goodies by working a crowd to getting us to cater to her by faking an injury (I’m not even kidding), Maia has one of the brightest minds in the canine kingdom.
Protect Your Dog’s Bright Mind with Purina Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+®
Did you know that, according to the experts at Purina Pro Plan, the glucose metabolism in your dog’s brain starts to change around age 7? Maia is double that age now. This change can affect their memory, learning, awareness and decision making. Maybe it’s the reason behind the cliche “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Purina Pro Plan® is out to prove that cliche wrong. They discovered a way to help promote mental alertness in your dogs ages 7+ through the use of enhanced botanical oils. They took the results of all their studies and created Purina Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ formula.
I’ve been trying Purina Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ with Maia for about three weeks now. I picked mine up at my local PetSmart, one of my favorite places to shop for all my furry kids (I’m sure you’ve lost count by now, but there are three dogs, a couple of cats and two guinea pigs!). They had a big, beautiful display that made it super easy to find. Plus it was on sale when I went. Woohoo! Into my cart it went!
Maia isn’t just the Alpha Dog, she’s pretty much the Alpha of the entire Pretty Opinionated animal kingdom. She feels it’s her job to maintain order and I want to help keep her mind sharp so she can make the right decisions regarding her subjects. With Purina BRIGHT MIND, you’ll see results within about 30 days. So far I’ve noticed that Maia is more engaged with her fuzzy friends. She’s more motherly to the kittens lately (Zoe is 7 months and Alex is just about 3 months), like she was when my cat Willow was a baby.
I also notice that Maia spends more time on her favorite activities, like sitting on the deck surveying the land and contemplating the meaning of life. She’s never been what I’d call an active dog. Her Shepherd sister, Tasha, covered that for her. Every now and then, though, she gets playful and wily, does a little trot and dance to show that she still has it in her. Since Purina Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND contains ingredients to support her muscles and joint health, I feel good about giving it to her.
As far as taste goes, obviously I can’t tell you if it’s yummy or not because I’m certainly not eating it, but it’s made with chicken as the first ingredient. Maia seems to like it. She can be a bit picky and doesn’t always finish her food right away. She’s a grazer. I like that the Large Breed formula has big pieces of kibble, because she tends to eat more of her serving in one sitting.
At 14, I’m not expecting Maia to run around the yard all day or be able to go on long walks up the big hills in my neighborhood with me like she used to. She’s in retirement when it comes to those activities. I do, however, want to keep her mind sharp, because I think that’s important to her. Each of my dogs have their own passions. Maia loves being the smartest, most clever girl in the house. I really love that Purina Pro Plan came up with a way to help her keep that mental acuity.

This sounds like a great food to feed my dogs. Our Lady is 6 and we want to keep her mind going as long as we can. She is also a very clever dog and uses it to get what she wants.
Sounds great. Thanks for sharing. I’ve never had a dog before but if ever, I think I’ll go crazy over all these dog food because there’s so much choices!
It’s so nice that this food helps out with their mental function. I’d love for the dogs to stay healthy and alert as long as possible!
I’m so glad there is something formulated for older dogs!
I didn’t even realize that they had such a kind of dog food. our dog is getting older, and this is definitely something we should buy to keep him healthy.
Purina is a great brand. We love their products. Not only is it affordable but the proteins and health benefits are worth it.
I feed this to my dog, Milo. I love that it’s good for him and he really likes it!
I will try to get this for my fur baby. He is turning 3 on Valentines day and I would want him to be as smart, healthy and loving as he is right now. I am happy that Purina has a special formulation to help our pets stay alert, sharp and healthy.
This sounds like a great food for senior dogs. I will check this out.
Older dogs are the best. She’s lived a long life. What a sweetheart!
your dog is such a sweetie! So beautiful!
It’s important to match your dog’s food with their age. I noticed when our black lab was getting older that a good senior dog food made her feel so much better.
My Bella really enjoyed this line. I love that there are things in it to help their coat and brain.
