What Makes Gulf County So Awesome?
Gulf County, Florida is such a unique destination for every type of adventurer because of the diversity of the area combined with the care they took to preserve all the natural beauty. GCFL was allowed to form organically at its own balanced pace, both naturally and culturally. The water plays a central role in life and adventure in GCFL. With easy access to multiple bodies of water and nature-based activities, you’ll never have the same experience twice. With so much easy access to water, you’re never more than 15 minutes away from fishing, diving, paddleboarding, ecotouring or boating! Not a fan of the water? No worries! You can go hiking, biking, birdwatching or just chill on the beach.

Answer a Fun Scavenger Hunt Question for a Chance to win $100 Sierra Trading Post Gift Card Giveaway Right HERE!
You have a chance to win a $100 Sierra Trading Post gift card right here. We’re going to have a little scavenger hunt of our own. I just LOVE a good scavenger hunt! Here’s how it works: in a moment, I’m going to ask you a question. You’ll hunt for the answer and leave it in the comment section. Just head to the GCFL Adventure Guide to find the answers. I recommend using the search bar.
One of my favorite things about GCFL is the fact that you can encounter all types of wildlife, from large majestic dolphins to itty bitty baby turtles! The residents of Gulf County take their role of wildlife protectors very seriously. Loggerhead turtles in particular call the area home. They nest along the St. Joseph Peninsula. Adventure Guide and SJP Turtle Patrol Volunteer Coordinator, Jessica, explains that on average, the 6-mile stretch sees between 90-100 nests, but this year they’re up to 149! You can help get in on the act of saving these turtles during your vacation. Check out this guide to learn more.
Now, for the fun part. There are actually quite a few great guides about the turtles on the GCFL Adventure Guide, but I’m looking at one in particular for my scavenger hunt question. One woman loves turtles so much that she did something pretty special to honor them!
What did Trish Petrie do for the turtles? There are a few acceptable answers, so all reasonable answers will be accepted. You can actually find the answer by typing that question into the GCLF Adventure Guide search bar. Just leave your answer in the comment section for your chance to win. That’s it! Giveaway is open to US residents age 18+ and ends on April 4th.

This looks like such an amazing place to vacation! We need to add Florida to our vacation list.
I have been to Gulf Shores in Florida and it is just beautiful. I would love to see the sea turtles go to the sea because I’m such a big animal lover.

I typed the question into the guide’s search and found that Trish Petrie named her Inn after the turtles on the beach.
She named her Inn after the turtles on the beach (Turtle Beach Inn) – when the Inn was built they passed a regulation for “turtle glass” so that light doesn’t reflect out onto the beach!
That sounds amazing! Florida is a great place to spend your time outdoors with family. Especially with nature! I love that they have different activities to choose from, that makes the trip so much more exciting.

Trish Petrie named her Inn after the turtles on the beach. Turtle season runs from May through October and during those months Turtle Patrol walks our beach every morning for signs of nests, she explains. If they find signs of nests, they protect them by placing chicken wire on the sand over them (baby turtles can crawl out but predators can’t dig in). They number the nests and mark them with crime scene ribbon.
