Can you believe that school is almost out for summer? We had quite a few snow days, so my son’s last day is sometime in mid-June, but I have family in the midwest that gets out as early as the first week of May! That’s like two weeks from now! Crazy, right? I am so ready for this school year to be over. It was definitely a challenging one for my son and we’re all ready for a break.
We’re in the process of making a huge decision about where he will attend school next year. Right now, we’re leaning towards cyber school, which comes with its own share of challenges. Over the summer, I need to really assess where my son is at as far as what he actually retained from this past year AND make sure that he doesn’t lose any of the skills that he learned. While all teachers and parents want to prevent summer slide, I think it’s even more important than ever for us because so much of his education will be self-directed next year.
Prevent Summer Slide with Brain Quest
Brain Quest, a #1 bestseller, created an exciting new expansion of their beloved brand: Summer Brain Quest. Through workbooks designed for every age group from K-6, Summer Brain Quest not only helps you prevent summer slide and figure out where your child is at with the skills needed for the next grade level, they actually make it fun! They are the perfect tool for parents, homeschoolers, tutors, and teachers alike.
What makes Summer Brain Quest the perfect tool?
Summer Brain Quest is so awesome because it’s really a one-of-a-kind learning experience that’s easily personalized for YOUR child. Now, I have to be honest: I never made Jacob do any sort of worksheets over the summer because I wanted him to enjoy his time off. I didn’t think they could make a worksheet fun enough for him to actually want to do. By turning it into a fun game, Summer Brain Quest took the “but mom, I don’t want to do school work!” out of the equation.
See, each book comes with a pull-out map that sends kids on their own learning quest. As they complete different pages, they get to earn stickers and fill in their route. If it was just about completing pages, I think my son would lose interest by the first week. Brain Quest understands that, so they let kids earn stickers by doing fun outdoor activities, too.
Since the map offers your kids a choice in planning the route, you can decide together where they need to focus a bit more over the summer. Jake loves science, so he’d choose a route that gave him an opportunity to do more hands-on experiments. However, I also know that he needs a little more math help. He’s much better at math than I ever was, but there are some areas that he covered that he didn’t quite get. I can work with him to tailor his route to include more lessons in math. Even though he’s getting ready to start 7th grade, the 5 & 6-grade book works as a great review for determining if he’s where he really needs to be before we start the next year.Â
Visual appeal is incredibly important to our kids today. Think about it, they have access to some of the most life-like, advanced video games we’ve ever seen. I watch my son play some games that look just like a movie! Again, Brain Quest understand that kids need to be drawn in by the visuals as much as by the content. Every book features original artwork by video game artist Edison Yan. Plus, every workbook was created in consultation with an award-winning teacher specializing in that grade. All exercises are aligned to both Common Core and Next Generation State Standards, so the lessons your kids learn will match the lessons they actually do in school.
I already trust Brain Quest to make learning fun because they’re made by Workman Publishing, the same company that created Big Fat Notebooks. I can’t even tell you how often we used those books throughout the school year. It makes sense for me to choose a summer series by the same creators. Learn More at the Official Site, and visit the Workman Blog for great tips for preventing summer slide. Follow @WorkmanPub on Twitter, Instagram,  Facebook and Pinterest to keep up with news!

I help prevent summer slide for my grandkids by taking them on trips t historical sites around our area & sneak in some experiential learning.
I always get workbooks and things like that to keep my kids busy over the summer. I hate summer brain drain.
I love this! I plan on my future 4th grader and kindergartner working on workbooks this summer. Also for my 3 year old that wants to start school but too little right now. I’ll look into this brand.
In the past I used to help prevent my children from not retaining information they learned previously. But I quickly learned that wasn’t the way to go with one of my children and I just had to let him be a kid for the summer .
Yes!! Thanks for bringing awareness for the summer slump to the forefront. We can do so many things to prevent it.
What a fun way to keep the kiddos learning during the summer months! Much better than them sitting in front of video games!
Oh my goodness, my mom used to do the Brainquest games with us on road trips. I totally forgot about
We have used these books in past summers and loved them! I need to go ahead and order some for this summer too.
Oh my god these look brilliant – when I was a kid I loved anything like these, I’d always be reading even before I could actually read haha! And I kept giving my parents insane quizzes and then I pretended I knew the answers and they didn’t hahaha x
These are great. Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean kids should stop learning. Looks like these books make it fun so your kids will actually want to complete them.
I love this! I have always got my kids the brain quest books but I had no idea there was a summer one! This is fantastic!
We have Brainquest at our house and we love it. My kids even love it!
My boys have used these books before and loved them. I really need to get more for this summer. Especially since my daughter is starting Kindergarten.
First let me say online school is awesome. Ok back to topic, I prevent summer slide by doing lots of outings and plan learning around it. For example the week before lets say going to the aquarium, we read books and do worksheet about it. She thinks its fun & leans.
These sound like really great activity books! I love the idea of doing things throughout the summer to keep minds fresh.
It’s really important that we keep the kids learning even during summer so that they won’t forget about what they learned for the past year. These are awesome books and activities to exercise their brain.
these are great for summer road trips!! We use to use them for our 6 hour trek up north
I have always loved the brain quest cards for each grade. I believe I had some of the higher grade ones growing up and I know my younger brother and sister did. So fun!
They look like a great idea to keep the little ones sharp during summer 🙂
I remember loving brain quest games as a kid. These are so perfect for keeping kiddo’s brains engaged during the summer!
We come up with our own summer reading list that better incorporates their interests and what we are doing around that time.
I use a lot of art, workbooks and hands on activities in summer. Brain quest is one of the materials. We love the question long booklets.
We go to our local library and participate in the summer programs there. It helps to keep them engaged.
try to get them to keep reading
It is super important to read every single day so you can get better at it!
I bring the kids to the library.
I’m so happy to see Brain Quest products are still available. My son used to have trivia cards when he was younger. Now that he has kids of his own, I’m so anxious to buy them these cool learning books!
they join the summer reading program at our local library
They participate in the summer reading program at the library.
I take them for swimming classes and also to the library for the reading program..
I keep my kids busy! A chore chart and music practice chart are a must and the best way to get through summer!
We prevent it by reading a lot!!
My daughter likes to read.
My daughter reads a lot.
We discovered Brain Quest a couple of years ago. We continue to have my daughter do work throughout the summer because she has a lot of homework issues!
I prevent summer slide as I have my kids read books and also do fun workbooks.

To tell you the truth, I don’t do anything over the summer to prevent the summer slide. Luckily, my kids don’t forget a lot.
WE READ AND PLAN ACTIVITIES INVOLVING THE BOOKS.
