A Midsummer Night’s Dream Coloring Novels™ Review
I’ll admit, when I first read about Coloring Novels™, I assumed that it was going to be a coloring book based on a novel. I’ve seen quite a few of those and always thought they were so creative. As I read the description, I thought “maybe it’s like a children’s version,” where there was some text on each coloring page. When the book arrived, I was surprised to see that you get the full version of the novel with coloring pages sprinkled throughout.
I had a chance to check out A Midsummer Night’s Dream, one of my all-time favorite Shakespeare plays. It’s also the perfect play to add a little fun coloring action to, since the plot is full of whimsy and magic already. Before the story begins, you’ll find a few pages that you can color right away. As you read, you’ll find more coloring pages in every chapter. I love that the pictures range from super simple floral patterns to more elaborate scenes of Titania and Helena.
Another thing I love about this whole concept: it’s a terrific way to get more people reading the classics. Anything that breathes new life into old favorites and promotes literacy in fun new ways is great in my mind!
One thing that I want to note (and the author notes as well): colored pencils are pretty much a must for these pages. You could maybe use a crayon with a super sharp point (to really get in all the nooks and crannies of the patterns), but markers and gel pens will bleed through. That’s perfect for me though because colored pencils are definitely my favorite coloring medium.
These books would make fantastic stocking stuffers for the holidays, don’t you think?
