As someone who suffers from chronic pain every single day of my life, I love getting gifts that promote both comfort and healing. Whether it’s a new pair of stylish sneakers that are easier on my feet or an aromatherapy gadget that helps me relax a bit, gifts like this show me that the giver knows just what I need. If you’re looking for a few great gift ideas for people with chronic pain, check out some of my favorites!
Gift Ideas That Help People with Chronic Pain
* I received complimentary samples of the products below (except for the Dot) in exchange for my honest opinion or for sharing them in my 2017 Holiday Gift Guide.
Comfy sneakers are an absolute must for anyone with back pain, and OESH SHOES‘ new LEA sneaker is among the most comfy I’ve ever worn. They feature superior comfort that seriously feels just like you’re walking on air. The secret? A proprietary design and technology created by Harvard M. D., Dr. Casey Kerrigan. Designed by a woman for the special needs of women’s physiology, this healthy, eco-friendly footwear isn’t just insanely comfortable but also totally cute and stylish! They come in two different colors: Storm Cloud (above), and Grapefruit. They run pretty true to size. I range from 7.5-8, so I got an 8. They fit perfect, with a little extra wiggle room (pun intended). OESH also sells dressier shoes, sandals, and men’s sneakers.
Plexus Yoga Wheel
I typically wouldn’t recommend giving exercise equipment as a gift, but this is so much more than just a workout tool. I wrote about the Plexus Wheel earlier this year when I shared my top ideas for relieving stress. I have the standard wheel, but their 3-pack in different sizes makes an amazing gift idea! Although it’s a yoga wheel, you don’t have to be a yoga master to use it. I use it to stretch out my back, sides, and shoulder muscles. It really helps! Plus it’s actually pretty! If you aren’t madly in love with the purple like I am, it does come in other colors.
Aera Smart Home Fragrance System
It’s no secret that certain scents can immediately lift your mood. It’s also no secret that being in a better mood not only helps you cope with chronic pain but may actually relieve it a bit. Think about it: when you’re feeling grumpy and stressed, your body tenses up. Your muscles contract, pull on all the wrong places. I notice that my back hurts just a little less when I’m relaxed and happy than when I’m miserable. Just a little, but when you’re in constant agony, a little goes a long way.
The Aera Smart Home Fragrance system is my all-time favorite aromatherapy tool. One device can scent up to 2,000 square feet! I use it every day in my home, and the fragrance capsules last surprisingly long. Aera is also incredibly eco-friendly because it doesn’t use propellants to distribute the scent, it uses some sort of magical tech that I don’t really understand. Along with their line of regular scents, they have three fabulous holiday scents that are perfect all winter long. My favorite is Snowfall! Head to the Aera website to check out more details about the fragrance system and learn about all the different fragrances.
The ReadyDesk Standing Desk
If you’re looking for a great gift idea for a writer, blogger, or someone else who spends a lot of time in front of a computer, I highly recommend the ReadyDesk standing desk. Standing to work takes some of the pressure off your spine. My back problems got worse when I started blogging and sitting all day. I’ll be sharing pictures and more details about it later this month, but I love it so much that I wanted to make sure it was on your radar for the holidays. The ReadyDesk turns pretty much any desk or flat surface into a standing desk. You don’t need tools to assemble it. I put mine together in less than five minutes. It’s super adjustable, so it’s short-person friendly, too! Since I’m barely 5’3″, that was a major plus for me.
The Amazon Alexa Dot
How does the Amazon Dot help promote comfort and healing? Oh, let me count the ways! First, you can use it to control a slew of smart home devices, so you don’t have to get up as often when your feet are killing you and you just can’t walk another inch. You can listen to music with it, including meditation tunes. Play white noise to help you get some sleep. Cheer yourself up by asking Alexa to tell you jokes. The list goes on and on. I got my son one for Easter this year and now I am getting another one just for me. I want one in every room of the house! Heads up: all of the Amazon Devices are on sale. I’m not sure how long that will last, though, so you might want to hurry over and check it out.
