3 Great DIY Holiday Gift Ideas

For the Wine Lover

With 949 million gallons of being consumed in the U.S. in 2016 alone, you’re sure to have someone who drinks wine that you need a gift for. And while a nice bottle of wine can be great, they can also get pretty expensive too. So why not make some adorable wine bottle charms? These charms are super easy to make and chances are, you already have most of the supplies you need at home. All you’re going to need is:

  • Wine cork
  • Wire
  • Button
  • Charms and beads
  • Eye ring
  • Key ring
  • Hot glue

To make these wine bottle charms, start by cutting about 12 inches of wire. Add on the beads and charms as you’d like and once you’re done, twist your wire tightly. Next, thread the wire through the button and twist it again. Cut off any excess wire and hot glue the button to the top of the wine cork. On the key ring, add whichever beads and charms you’d like again. Add the eye ring onto the key ring and twist the eye ring into the bottom of the wine cork. You should now have a cute charm that can hang off of any wine bottle. These are super simple and make a great gift for any hostess!

For Someone Who Needs Pampering

While a gift card to a local spa can be an amazing gift, how about you make a spa-like product your friends can use right at home? That’s what’s so great about this peppermint candy cane sugar scrub. Sugar scrubs make a great gift and can give your loved ones soft, smooth skin. And better yet, they’re easy to make! You’re going to need:

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • Red food coloring
  • Peppermint essential oil
  • 1/4 cup almond oil

Grab two bowls and pour one cup of sugar and 1/8 cup almond oil into each, stirring until the sugar and oil are mixed. In one of the bowls, add in two drops of red food coloring, mixing until it’s consistent throughout. After the food coloring, add about 10 drops of peppermint essential oil (or until you’re satisfied with the scent). If you’re one of the 90% of consumers who reuse product packaging, find an old jar or can around your home to put the sugar scrub in — preferably one that is clear. Layer the pink and white sugar mixtures until the container is full and you’ll have a wonderful sugar scrub waiting to be gifted. You can even double or triple the recipe to save time and make multiple batches at once.

For the Car Enthusiast

With statistics showing that about 77% of vehicles today need some level of maintenance or repairs, you probably have someone in your life who likes to work on cars. And if you lack the experience or knowledge to actually help with auto mechanics, then you should consider making a DIY wrench frame instead. Picture frames are always a great gift because the receiver can then personalize it with a picture — or you can put in a picture of you two! Either way, this wrench frame is perfect for any mechanic or car lover and all you’ll need is:

  • 4 wrenches
  • A large bolt
  • Glue
  • Spray paint

To make this wrench frame, start by arranging the wrenches in a square/rectangular shape so they make a complete frame shape. You’ll want to use industrial glue to glue them all together. After they dry, glue the head of the large bolt to the bottom wrench so it will help the frame stand up — or if you want, you can skip this step so the frame can be hung instead. Spray paint the entire frame with whichever color you’d like, or leave it unpainted for a more authentic look. If you’re going to add a photo, simply tape or lightly glue it onto the back of the frame.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on a gift for it to be great. So consider some of these gift ideas for the people in your life who will appreciate a well-crafted gift.
