Gordon Ramsay’s Chef Blast Review (for iOS & Android)
Whether you’re a huge Gordon Ramsay fan, a “match -X” puzzle lover or both, Outplay Entertainment has the perfect game for you. Gordon Ramsay’s Chef Blast is out now for both Android and iOS mobile devices.
We’ll check out some basics, then we’ll see what makes it stand out from other matching games. Let’s dig in (pun totally intended). Check out the trailer video below, then keep reading for more details.
App Features & Basics
On the surface, Gordon Ramsay’s Chef Blast is very similar to other “match two or more” puzzle games. You’re presented with a screen full of colorful blocks. Click on adjacent blocks of the same color in groups of two or more to clear the screen (or reach other goals). Make larger matches to win nifty little boosts that help you reach your objectives faster.
That familiarity makes it easy to pick up right away. There’s no real learning curve, and that’s part of what draws us to these games. That said, if you are new to matching games, virtual Gordon Ramsay gives you a crash-course throughout the first few levels.
- Gordon Ramsay’s actual voice in the commentary and voice-overs throughout.
- 260 levels at launch (with more on their way) of matching fun.
- Create your own profile with player name and one of 10 portraits, then unlock new portraits as you progress through the game.
- Cooking-inspired pre-game boosts that help you reach your goals faster, such as a peeler to remove columns or a hammer to smash cubes.
- Earn boosts through gameplay by making larger matches. For example, match 9+ cubes of the same color to get a chili that wipes out all other cubes of that color. Combine two chilis for a mega-boost that clears the whole board.
- Earn in-game currency to buy boosts.
- Access to a recipe book with exclusive dishes (see “what makes it unique” for more on this).
- Fun tournaments and challenges that let you earn trophies and other rewards.
- Completely free to download and play, but offers in-app purchases (like those below). It’s also available in 6 different languages.
Like I said, it’s very intuitive and easy to pick up. So, let’s explore more about what makes this matching game stand out from all of the others.
What makes Gordon Ramsay’s Chef Blast Unique?
Why should you grab THIS particular match-x game out of all the others available out there. Well, the main reason is right in the name of the game: Gordon Ramsay! The world-renowned British chef partnered with Outplay Entertainment to offer not just his voice, but his incredible cooking talents to players.
Throughout the game, Ramsay offers encouragement and tips to help you beat levels, as well as a good kick in the pants when you’re losing. It’s definitely fun to hear him tell you that you’re brilliant!
However, the voice-over from one of the world’s greatest chefs isn’t even the best part. What really makes this game unique is the recipes.
Once you reach level three, you’ll unlock your very own Gordon Ramsay recipe book. Every two weeks, new challenges pop up that let you earn brand-new recipes to add to it.
Some of these dishes are exclusive to the game. In other words, you won’t find them in any of his cookbooks or through a simple online search. THAT is what truly makes it unique.
I also like that it’s a “match 2” game, versus 3 or more. While that makes the early levels a lot easier in general, it gets a lot more challenging than it sounds later on!
Where to Download Gordon Ramsay’s Chef Blast
I know I mentioned this above, but let me reiterate for all you skimmers out there (because I know at least one of you just looked at the pictures, then scanned for the download info. Hey, no judgement!).
Gordon Ramsay’s Chef Blast is available for both Apple and Android devices. If you’re reading this on a mobile browser, here is the link that will take you right to the game’s download page on Outplay. From there, just click Download Now and it’ll pop you right over to the App Store or Google Play.
For Kindle Fire HD Users
The game isn’t available in Amazon’s app store as of this moment (not sure if that will change). If you have Google Play sideloaded, though, that link above works the same way. Just click Download Now and it’ll launch your Play store.
So far, I’m really enjoying playing the game! I’m only a few levels in, but I’m just a handful of stars away from unlocking my first recipe. It’s easy enough to pick up right away and play for a few minutes during a quick break, but engaging enough to keep me entertained during a longer gaming session. I’ll definitely continue playing and I look forward to seeing what recipes I unlock next!
I would enjoy it the game ALOT more if I could buy (or earn) unlimited lives. I run out of lives so fast that I’m getting bored with the game.
Being part of a team can really help with the lives issue. There you can give and get lives to and from your teammates.
