I read pretty much every chance I get, and I’m not always curled up in my comfy spot on the couch when free time magically presents itself. I read at the table when I’m eating (I know you’re not supposed to do that for dieting purposes, but I can’t help it!), I read in waiting rooms and on my back deck while Jake plays in the summer. In some of those places, especially at the table, I either need to keep my hands free, or can’t find a comfortable position in which to hold my book. This is where BookWedge, a new product by the same company who brought us the WondaWedge, comes into play.
The BookWedge is an inflatable book rest that allows you to prop up your E-Reader, iPad, hardcover book, or pretty much any other reading media. It works for softcover books too, but you’ll still have to hold onto the book unless you can find another way to get it to stay open. I love using it with my Kindle. The BookWedge only weighs about 3-oz, so it’s really lightweight when sitting on your lap. At the same time, it’s sturdy enough to hold up your book while you’re sitting at the table reading.
Other Benefits of the BookWedge
- It reduces muscle strain. When I hold a book down on my lap and read for too long, it kills my neck. On the other hand, if I hold it up higher, it hurts my shoulders after a while. The BookWedge significantly helps with both problems.
- It’s highly portable. Just deflate it, fold it, and stuff it into your purse. It only takes a minute to inflate again at your destination.
- The bumper that holds the book or in place is small enough that it won’t block the text at the bottom of the page.
- It’s made of strong material that won’t easily pop, and covered in a velvet-like fabric that is soft to the touch.
Overall, I am very pleased with the BookWedge, and it definitely makes my Kindle reading time a lot more comfortable. It’s also great for propping up Jacob’s various books and papers during homework time. He has to do a bunch of spelling games every week with his list, and it’s much easier to prop the list up so he can refer back to it.

I have to say the fact that it reduces muscle strain is a huge asset, espicially the older we get. 🙂 No joking, kids. When you hit 35, it’s all aches and pains everywhere- even when you read. 🙂 This looks like it would help alleviate that somehow.
