I still remember back when I was little (a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… or about 28 years ago) and I used to go grocery shopping with my grandparents every week. We lived in the mountains, in a tiny development (back then, now it’s much bigger, with paved roads and all!) about ten miles from civilization, so grocery shopping day was a big deal. We’d fill me full of motion sickness meds, get in the car, and drive a good 40 minutes away to the “good” grocery store. Before shopping, we always ate at the same Italian restaurant before heading across the street for a week’s worth of supplies. My grandparents always let me pick out a few things while I was there, including some sort of candy. One of my all-time favorites was the RingPop, that big, shiny piece of candy that was worth way more than precious gems to a 7-year-old. I always liked the red ones. It didn’t matter what flavor they were, as long as they were red.
Nearly three decades later, my son is enjoying the same candy treat that I loved as a child, and now, to make it even more wonderful, RingPops come in Sugar-Free varieties. They’re made with Splenda, so they still taste as sweet as the originals. Believe me, if they tasted different, my son would let me know. He’s the pickiest eater on the planet, and that extends to candy as well as regular food. I recently received a package of three Sugar-Free Ring Pops for review, with Watermelon, Strawberry, and Blue Raspberry flavors. Jacob immediately tore into the package and started on the Strawberry one, just like his Mommy used to. We both love the fact that RingPops are easy to hold onto and don’t result in sticky messes (he’s like me, he has issues with sticky hands). I also like them because, along with being Sugar-Free, they only have 30 calories per pop and no fat. How many treats last as long as the RingPop with so few calories? Jake’s birthday party is this weekend, so I’ll definitely be buying more of these to stick in his goodie bag!
I have another bag with three of the same RingPops that I received to giveaway to one reader. Winner will receive a package with one each of Strawberry, Watermelon, and Blue Raspberry Sugar-Free RingPops. Giveaway runs until 6/15/11 and is open to US Residents.
